Job Description - Client Accounting Specialist

Role and Responsibilities:


Under general supervision, Accounting Specialists in the Client Accounting Services (CAS) department perform a variety of professional bookkeeping and accounting services, primarily for business clients, that outsource such needs to CNC. The services provided by the CAS department range from daily bookkeeping to quarterly and/or annual tax reports and require a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function, listed below, satisfactorily, as they are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.



  • Build on knowledge acquired in college or previous experience to gain a functional level of technical and operational knowledge to proficiently perform assigned tasks

  • Accurately and timely process Payroll (piecework, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly pay periods), making any necessary General Ledger entries

  • Regularly reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial accounts regularly

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for assigned clients

  • Print monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of delivery/completion

  • Serve as a point of contact for client inquiries and provide exceptional client service

  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary financial information and documentation

  • Prepare, file, schedule, and record Payroll tax reports

  • Prepare, file, schedule, and record Sales Tax/Business & Occupational tax reports

  • Process and record Accounts Payable invoices, statements, and payments

  • Process and record Accounts Receivable invoices and application of payments

  • Perform analytical and detailed work with numerical data efficiently and accurately

  • Utilize and develop a functional understanding of firm software and internal workflow/procedures to manage binder documentation and maintain client information

  • Familiarity with Engagement Agreements, identifying and reporting any modifications or deviations in the agreed scope of work

  • Exercise and model strict confidentiality and information security practices

  • Follow firm accounts receivable policy and notify managing member of clients with balances of 90+ days

  • Accurately report and release billable and non-billable time consistently and understand its importance

  • Meet productivity standards

  • Respond to inquiries from tax authorities

  • Adhere to agreed-upon work schedule


Preferred Skills:



  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing

  • Ability to use critical thinking to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Working knowledge of basic office technology, particularly Microsoft Office Suite including Excel

  • Working knowledge of various accounting programs, particularly QBO desktop and QBO online versions, and Paychex

  • Ability to apply basic mathematical skills

  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships


Qualifications and Education Requirements:



  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with appropriate GPA OR equivalent work experience

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a client-facing role

  • Experience with statement preparation and account reconciliation


Working Conditions:


Typical office environment with standard office hours.
Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods (e.g., fiscal year-end, tax season).


Pay Range: $20 - $25/hr
