Client Outreach Coordinator

South Hills Interfaith Movement’s (SHIM) mission is to mobilize community resources and implement sustainable programs that compassionately help neighbors meet basic needs, achieve self-sufficiency, and build community. SHIM provides food, clothing, financial aid, education, family support, and a host of other services to 8,500 people in need in Pittsburgh’s southern suburban neighborhoods. In response to the unique challenges faced by the local refugee and immigrant population, SHIM operates programming designed to support children and families in this demographic. 

Job Summary: 

The Client Outreach Coordinator is responsible for building strong, supportive relationships with individuals and families in the community and ensuring they remain connected to SHIM programs and services that promote long term stability and economic mobility. This position serves as an ongoing resource and trusted connection for clients who have previously accessed short term assistance programs, helping them identify and engage with additional resources and opportunities that support their ongoing goals and well-being. 

As a newly developed role, the Client Outreach Coordinator will play an important part in creating welcoming, client-centered outreach strategies that encourage continued engagement and strengthen trust within the community. The coordinator will develop and manage communication and follow-up systems, including phone outreach, newsletters, email communication, and participation in community and program events. This role requires a proactive, relationship focused professional who is comfortable building new processes, collaborating across programs, and finding creative ways to connect community members with the support and services available through SHIM. 

This position is fully onsite. Employees are expected to work in person at SHIM’s designated work location(s) in alignment with organizational needs and position requirements. There will be local travel within the South Hills. 

Essential Functions 

• Provide a welcoming and supportive point of contact for community members seeking information about SHIM services. 
• Maintain regular contact with individuals and families who have accessed short-term or crisis support services (such as financial assistance) to ensure they are aware of additional SHIM programs that support long term stability and economic mobility. 
• Develop systems for ongoing client follow up, including phone outreach, email communication, newsletters, and other engagement strategies. 
• Develop and implement creative outreach and engagement strategies that increase awareness of SHIM programs, strengthen community relationships, and promote ongoing client engagement. 
• Distribute client outreach materials including newsletters, email campaigns, program updates, and informational resources. Work in collaboration with the communications team to develop materials.  
• Create and maintain communication strategies that keep clients informed and engaged with SHIM services and opportunities. 
• Track outreach activities, communication efforts, and client engagement outcomes while maintaining accurate records and documentation. 
• In collaboration with SHIM staff, represent SHIM at community events, resource fairs, and partner gatherings to share information about available programs and resources. 
• Attend program activities and events across the organization to build relationships with participants and increase cross-program engagement. 
• Share feedback from clients and community members to help improve programs and better meet community needs. 
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to a supportive, collaborative, and mission-driven work environment. 

Minimum Qualifications   

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience will be considered. Experience in community outreach, social services, nonprofit work, or community engagement preferred.  
• Strong relationship building, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to connect effectively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated cultural humility and sensitivity when working with people representing a variety of needs, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. 
• Excellent organizational, planning, time management, and follow up skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and outreach efforts. 
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with energy, flexibility, initiative, and the ability to multitask. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, basic computer software, email communication, and internet-based systems. 
• Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for community events and outreach activities. 
• Reliable independent transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance required, with willingness to travel throughout the community to meet with participants and attend events.

Clearance Requirements:  

• Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History (PATCH) through the Pennsylvania State Police 
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse History (PACA) through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services 
• FBI Criminal History Background Check (FBI Fingerprint); requires the individual to submit their fingerprints to the FBI and have the background check run through the PA State Police’s designated agencies 
• NSOR 
• Mandated Reporter Training

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met as an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit, walk, stand, use hands, fingers and feet, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.  The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.  Specific job duties require data entry, and the ability to hear and speak over the telephone.
