Position Summary


Client is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Account Executive (CAE) to join our growing Rare Disease Commercial Team. This role is responsible for driving physician and patient identification, market development, disease-state education, and brand awareness for the therapy within an assigned territory.


The ideal candidate is a strategic, performance-driven pharmaceutical sales professional with experience in rare disease or specialty pharmaceutical markets. Candidates with expertise in Neurology, Nephrology, or Rheumatology are strongly preferred. Experience launching therapies in competitive markets and delivering measurable market growth is highly desirable.


Reporting directly to the Area Business Director, the CAE will collaborate closely with healthcare providers, patient support services, market access teams, medical affairs, and internal stakeholders to ensure patients have access to therapy and achieve successful treatment initiation.


This position requires a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment, demonstrates strong clinical selling capabilities, and can effectively manage multiple stakeholders while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and integrity.


Key Responsibilities


Territory and Business Development



  • Drive demand generation through clinical selling, disease-state education, and promotion of the therapy to referring and treating healthcare providers.

  • Develop and execute territory business plans and account-specific strategies to increase physician and patient identification, market development, and brand awareness.

  • Continuously analyze territory performance and identify opportunities to expand market share and grow business results.

  • Prioritize resources, activities, and customer engagements to maximize impact across high-potential accounts.


Account Management



  • Create and implement strategic account plans for key physicians, healthcare systems, and specialty practices.

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with healthcare providers through effective pre-call planning, tailored engagements, and post-call analysis.

  • Develop customer-specific approaches that align with individual account needs and treatment pathways.

  • Partner with accounts to improve patient identification and optimize treatment adoption.


Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Collaborate closely with Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), Market Access, Patient Services, HUB Support, and other internal stakeholders.

  • Coordinate resources to ensure appropriate patient access, reimbursement support, and therapy initiation.

  • Facilitate communication across multiple teams to provide a seamless customer and patient experience.


Compliance and Professional Excellence



  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of disease states, product information, clinical data, and competitive landscape.

  • Conduct all activities in accordance with pharmaceutical industry regulations, company policies, and ethical standards.

  • Participate in physician programs, patient events, conferences, and educational initiatives as needed.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Business, Life Sciences, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful pharmaceutical sales experience in rare disease or specialty markets.

  • Demonstrated success achieving and exceeding sales objectives.

  • Experience in Rheumatology, Nephrology, or Neurology strongly preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Ability to travel extensively within a multi-state territory, including overnight travel of 40–60%.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for physician programs, conferences, and patient events.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Product launch experience within specialty or rare disease markets.

  • Knowledge of commercial and government payer environments.

  • Understanding of patient support services and specialty pharmacy distribution channels.

  • Experience working with patient HUB services and reimbursement support programs.

  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical industry legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

  • Experience developing and executing territory-level business plans and account strategies.


Compensation & Benefits


Base Salary Range: $160,000 – $200,000 annually


Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, education, geographic location, and relevant industry expertise.
