GENERAL DUTIES:

The Clinical Educator (Professional Development Practitioner) is an experienced professional nurse who utilizes evidence-based practice for the achievement of organizational goals related to nursing education and professional development.  The Clinical Educator serves in the following roles to guide the learner to desired organizational outcomes:   learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, a champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for the nursing professional development specialty, and partner for practice transitions for nursing staff.  The Clinical Educator possesses in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill, and competence.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with pending enrollment in a Master’s in Nursing program with scheduled graduation within a reasonable time of hire
  2. Current, unencumbered licensure to practice in the State of California
  3. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in teaching adult learners
  4. Minimum of 5 years recent clinical experience in the specialty for which the applicant desires to become educator
  5. Demonstrated competency and ability to perform all duties within the perinatal continuum of care
  6. Computer literacy including Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  7. Exceptional relationship management skills and professional demeanor.  Exemplifies elevated nursing practice, higher education, and professional growth and development.
  8. Understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to apply them in course instruction
  9. Understanding of change management principles.  Ability to be a change agent by being a champion for change and participating in change processes
  10. Proven ability in critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, analytical/qualitative analysis, time management and priority setting
  11. Demonstrated ability to function both autonomously and collaboratively within a team
  12. Strong communication and leadership skills
  13. Ability to work flexible hours to meet education needs of all nursing staff (day, night, weekend shifts)
  14. Performs other relevant duties as assigned
  15. Maintains current knowledge regarding education and regulatory requirements
  16. BLS/ACLS/NRP/Fetal Heart Monitoring provider status current at all times
  17.       
  18. Preferred:
  19. MSN-Education
  20. Previous experience as an educator or clinical instructor
  21. Current Fetal Heart Monitoring Instructor credential
  22. Certification in specialty (e.g., CCRN, CEN, CMSRN, CNOR, etc.) nursing education (CNE), or nursing professional development (NPD-BC)
  23. Active membership in relevant professional organization
