Education:

  • Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or Schooling Psychology

License - Issued by Florida or Compact State\: 

  • Psychologist

Work Experience and Additional Information:

  • PhD or PsyD from an APA approved accredited degree-granting college or university. 
  • Pre-doctoral internship from an APA accredited program. Post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Health or Rehabilitation Psychology.
  • Broadly trained clinical health psychologist with firm foundation in diagnosis and treatment of medically complex populations. 
  • Must be eligible for Medical Staff Privileges. 

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Evidence based interventions such as ACT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, ERP, DBT, and pain management may be utilized.

  • Comfortable working, engaging, and providing resolution in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrates the ability to critically think and make complex decisions in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution abilities.

  • Practices at the top of license with independent decision making guided by evidence.

  • Ability to communicate amongst all levels of the organization and engaged communication.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical records (EMR) systems


The Clinical Health Psychologist assesses, diagnoses, and treats psychological, emotional, cognitive, and functional status of individuals who are coping with injury and/or health issues using a biopsychosocial approach. The Clinical Health Psychologist performs evaluations to determine the presence of emotional and behavioral symptoms or disorders likely to impact daily functioning and quality of life to promote optimal outcome and adjustment to medical conditions. The Clinical Health Psychologist may work in an inpatient consultation-liaison role, in integrated clinics and/or outpatient settings as part of a multidisciplinary team within our large Health System. Clinical Health Psychologist is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values with Tampa General Hospital.  

Essential Functions:

·         Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:

o  Conduct psychological evaluations of patients to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.

o  Utilize a variety of assessment tools and techniques to diagnose psychological conditions.

·         Psychotherapy and Counseling:

o  Provide individual, group, and family therapy to patients dealing with chronic illness, pain management, or other medical conditions.

o  Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to the psychological needs of patients.

·         Collaboration with Medical Teams:

o  Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers to coordinate comprehensive patient care.

o  Provide consultation to medical staff regarding the psychological aspects of patient care.

·         Patient and Family Education:

o  Educate patients and their families about psychological factors that may impact medical conditions and overall health.

o  Provide strategies and interventions to help patients cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and other. 

·         Administrative Responsibilities:

o  Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes. Adhering to med staff bylaws with documentation requirements.

o  Participate in departmental and organizational mandatory meetings and trainings, as well as med staff psychology section meetings.

·         Supervision and Training: 

o  Promotes education of psychology trainees in developing skills and knowledge related to providing optimum health care. Participate in psychology fellowship program by fostering and providing minimum required didactics, teaching and supervision of trainees. Additional responsibilities outlined for primary supervisors if leading a major training rotation. Please reference Supervision manual for requirements.

·         Ethical and Cultural Competence:

o  Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards in all aspects of clinical practice.

o  Demonstrate cultural competence by providing care that respects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of patients. 

o  Participation in department rotational on-call is expected throughout the year
