Job Description - Clinical Manager - Behavioral Health
A community-based nonprofit serving diverse populations across Michigan is hiring a Clinical Manager to lead its behavioral health services. The organization serves culturally and linguistically diverse populations across Michigan, with programs funded through Medicaid, Community Mental Health contracts, and commercial payers. Behavioral health sits alongside workforce, youth, and family services, so the work connects to a broader whole-person model of care.
This is a high-autonomy role reporting to the Director of Behavioral Health. You own the clinical program end to end: the team that delivers it, the documentation that supports it, and the compliance posture that keeps it audit-ready. It carries supervisory responsibility for a multidisciplinary staff and external-facing responsibility with CMH partners, payers, and referral sources.
The ideal candidate:
Holds a master's in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related clinical field
Holds an active, unrestricted Michigan clinical license (LMSW, LPC, LMFT, or LP)
Brings 3–5+ years of direct clinical services and 2+ years supervising or managing in community-based settings
Knows Medicaid/CMH and commercial payer rules, documentation standards, and what an audit actually asks for
Is fluent in CPT/HCPCS coding and utilization management, and comfortable in an EHR and Microsoft 365
Responsibilities:
Provide clinical and administrative oversight of behavioral health services across community, school, and telehealth settings
Recruit, supervise, and coach a multidisciplinary clinical team; manage performance, productivity, and training
Enforce clinical policies consistent with Medicaid, CMH, commercial payer, and state/federal requirements
Run chart reviews, utilization review, and QA; lead audits and corrective action plans
Oversee CPT coding and billing workflows; partner with finance on medical necessity and payer requirements
Set program goals and budgets; track outcomes and report on effectiveness
Serve as liaison with CMH partners, payers, and referral sources
Maintain HIPAA compliance and ethical practice standards
Additional Details:
Start: ASAP
Job Type: Full Time, Exempt Salaried
Schedule: Monday - Friday standard business hours with occasional evenings/weekends based on community needs
