A day in the life…
Wondering what a day in the life ofCMA, LPN or RNinGeneral Surgeryat The Iowa Clinic might look like?
Review charts, verify informed consent, and track laboratory or diagnostic results.
Assess vital signs, log current medications, and verify surgical site readiness.
Assist surgeons during minor in-office surgical procedures and examinations.
Execute wound care, perform dressing changes, and remove sutures.
Apply strict aseptic and sterile techniques to medical instruments and procedural setups.
Schedule outpatient consultations, coordinate diagnostic tests, and secure surgical dates.
Navigate Electronic Health Records (EHR), log orders, and finalize insurance paperwork.
Provide clear instructions to patients regarding home recovery, pain management, and follow-up care.
Return patient calls and ensure all patients feel valued and cared for
Leave in the evening – hooray for working standard clinic hours!
Provide additional coverage (rotating as needed) at our Waukee and Downtown Des Moines General Surgery locations

Qualifications
A desire to find a meaningful, fulfilling career
Knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, medical diagnoses, and treatments
Exceptional patient skills
The ability to prepare and maintain records
Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
A positive and team-oriented attitude
Ability to assist physicians in a professional manner
Required Licenses
Active Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, or Certified Medical Assistance (CMA).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
