CNC Programmer

Professional Search Group is seeking a highly skilled and motivated CNC Mill/Lathe Programmer to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, testing, and optimizing CNC programs for milling and turning operations on a variety of precision metal components. Your expertise will ensure efficient, accurate machining processes that meet strict quality standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced CNC machinery, including 5-axis CNC machines and CNC lathes, while utilizing your strong mechanical knowledge and programming skills to contribute to high-quality production.

Responsibilities

• Develop and write CNC programs for milling and lathe machines using CAM software, ensuring optimal tool paths and machining strategies.
• Interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings, applying GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles to produce precise parts.
• Set up CNC tooling, fixtures, and machining tools accurately on machines such as CNC mills and lathes, including 5-axis CNC machines.
• Conduct precision measurements using calipers, bore gauges, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other measurement instruments to verify part dimensions and quality.
• Troubleshoot machining issues by analyzing geometry, tooling wear, machine parameters, and program logic; make necessary adjustments for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to implement lean manufacturing principles that enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
• Maintain detailed documentation of programs, setups, tooling configurations, and measurement results to ensure traceability and quality compliance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience programming CNC mills and lathes using Fanuc controls or similar systems.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA for creating or modifying engineering drawings and CAD models.
• Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T standards, and mechanical blueprint interpretation.
• Knowledge of CAM software for CNC programming in metal machining applications.
• Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
• Mechanical aptitude with a solid grasp of machining tools setup, geometry calculations, tooling selection, and schematics interpretation.
• Experience working with precision measurement instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, CMMs, and schematics to ensure quality control.
• Ability to apply lean manufacturing principles to improve processes efficiently while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
