Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

College Advising & Student Support

  • Provide individualized support for a caseload of SEED graduates.
  • Conduct regular advising sessions focused on financial aid, academics, and social adjustment to college.
  • Visit students at their respective campuses and help connect them to on-campus support (e.g., financial aid, academic advising, mental health resources).
  • Assist students who need to transfer institutions, re-enter college, or access community-based resources.
  • Support students with financial aid tasks such as applications, reviewing award letters, and connecting to emergency funding.
  • Maintain consistent communication with graduates via phone, email, text, and social media.
  • Use CoPilot™, a Salesforce™-based student information system, to manage caseload data and submit monthly reports.

School Collaboration & Programming

  • Partner with school-based college counseling staff on programming and transition planning.
  • Lead or co-lead college transition advising for SEED high school seniors.
  • Support and lead college success training sessions for SEED staff across the network.
  • Maintain regular contact with key staff at SEED schools to ensure alignment in student support.

Data Tracking & Advising Insights

  • Collect, manage, and analyze caseload and programmatic data using SEED’s systems.
  • Track student outcomes and engagement consistently.
  • Maintain accurate advising notes and ensure all student data is current and complete.
  • Use insights from data to inform student support strategies.

Requirements

Essential Experience, Skills, and Competencies

Ideal candidates are expected to have/be:

• Commitment to the mission of SEED and our core values of: COMPASSION, GRATITUDE, GROWTH, INTEGRITY, PERSEVERANCE, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY.

• A bachelor’s degree is required, with 2–3 years of experience providing college access and success support in a school, community, or university-based setting.

• Understanding of financial aid, including the FAFSA, DC OneApp, and DC CAP Last Dollar Award completion process and Maryland grant-based college funding opportunities.

• Experience with individual and group college success advising sessions.

• Familiarity with college matching frameworks and “right fit” advising approaches is preferred.

• Highly capable of dealing with sensitive issues and being discreet.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with creative and positive energy for working with youth.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team while managing multiple tasks.

• Experience in data analytics and strong interest in advancing such skills.

• Strong administrative, database management, and records maintenance skills to handle confidential material.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel), and Google Workspace.

• Comfort with student information and customer relations systems.

• An active driver’s license and ability to travel to SEED schools and designated higher ed institutions.
