Commercial Litigation Attorney

Job Description - Commercial Litigation Attorney

Commercial Litigation Associate

Austin or Dallas, Texas | 3–5 Years of Experience

Texas Bar Association required

WE CANNOT OFFER SPONSORSHIP, MUST BE A US CITIZEN GREEN OR CARD HOLDER

We are partnering with a highly regarded national law firm to hire a Commercial Litigation Associate for its growing Texas practice. This opportunity can be based in either Austin or Dallas.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercial litigator who wants to take on sophisticated matters, meaningful responsibility, direct client exposure, and greater involvement in litigation strategy while working alongside experienced attorneys representing clients across the financial services and capital markets sectors.

The team is looking for an attorney with approximately 3–5 years of complex commercial litigation experience who is ready to take greater ownership throughout the lifecycle of a matter.

The Opportunity

You will work on sophisticated commercial disputes involving clients operating within financial services, capital markets, and related industries.

Rather than being limited to research and behind-the-scenes support, the associate will have the opportunity to become meaningfully involved in the development and execution of litigation strategy.

Depending on experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Managing significant portions of complex commercial litigation matters

  • Conducting factual investigations and case assessments

  • Drafting complaints, answers, pleadings, briefs, and other court filings

  • Preparing and responding to written discovery

  • Managing document discovery and production

  • Preparing witnesses for depositions

  • Taking and defending depositions

  • Drafting dispositive and other substantive motions

  • Conducting complex legal research and analysis

  • Developing litigation strategies and recommending courses of action

  • Participating in settlement negotiations

  • Preparing for and participating in mediation

  • Preparing matters for arbitration and trial

  • Working directly with clients regarding case developments and strategy

  • Collaborating with partners and senior attorneys on sophisticated disputes

  • Managing multiple matters, deadlines, and competing priorities

Trial or arbitration experience is highly valued but is not required.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of substantive commercial litigation experience and a strong understanding of the different stages of complex litigation.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience beyond simply supporting matters. The team is particularly interested in attorneys who are comfortable exercising judgment, taking ownership of assignments, communicating with clients, and contributing to litigation strategy.

Candidates should have:

  • 3–5 years of commercial litigation experience

  • An active Texas Bar license

  • Experience handling complex business or commercial disputes

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills

  • Experience drafting substantive pleadings and motions

  • Deposition preparation and/or deposition experience

  • Exposure to settlement negotiations, mediation, arbitration, or trial

  • Excellent academic credentials

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Exceptional professional judgment

  • The ability to articulate legal strategies and recommended courses of action

  • The ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters simultaneously

  • Strong organizational and project-management skills

  • The ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • A collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills

Experience involving financial services, banking, lending, securities, capital markets, or other highly regulated industries may be particularly relevant, although candidates with strong complex commercial litigation backgrounds from other industries are encouraged to apply.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

This opportunity is particularly well suited for an attorney who wants to continue developing from a strong technical litigator into someone capable of managing matters, advising clients, exercising independent judgment, and taking increasing ownership of litigation strategy.

The team values attorneys who are proactive, intellectually curious, business-minded, entrepreneurial, and comfortable taking initiative.

You should be someone who doesn't simply identify a legal issue—you think through the available options, understand the potential business implications, and can articulate a recommended path forward.

Why Consider the Opportunity?

For an associate at the 3–5 year level, the next few years can be critical in developing the experience necessary to become a well-rounded commercial litigator.

This position provides the opportunity to deepen your experience across the litigation lifecycle while gaining exposure to:

Sophisticated Commercial Matters
Work on complex disputes involving sophisticated businesses and challenging legal issues.

Continue developing practical litigation skills through substantive discovery, depositions, briefing, and motion practice.

Trial & Arbitration Exposure

Financial Services & Capital Markets
Develop valuable industry knowledge while representing sophisticated clients operating in financial and regulated markets.

Long-Term Career Development
Build the judgment, client-management skills, and litigation experience necessary to take increasingly senior roles on matters.

Compensation & Benefits

The firm offers competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Medical coverage

  • Dental coverage

  • Vision coverage

  • 401(k)

  • Additional firm-sponsored benefits and programs

Specific compensation will depend on experience and other relevant qualifications.

Location

Austin, Texas or Dallas, Texas

Candidates must hold an active Texas Bar license.
