Job Title: Commercial Roofing Estimator – Private Sector

Department: Roofing

Reports To: Division Director

Location: Boca Raton, FL

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

SUMMARY:

The Commercial Roofing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for BlueTeam's commercial roofing projects, including insurance claim and bid reroof work, for clients across the hospitality, senior care, multi-family, industrial, and other commercial property sectors. This role owns the prebid process from assignment through client submission. That includes site visits, takeoffs, adjuster meetings, and preparing the prebid package (estimate, budget, and schedule). The estimator works with project management, production, subcontractors, and the internal Prebid review team to make sure estimates are complete, competitive, and submitted on time. The Commercial Roofing Estimator is accountable for client communication during preconstruction and for a smooth handoff to the Project Manager once a project moves into production.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Estimating and Takeoffs


  • Receive new estimating assignments from the Division Director and prioritize them against bid deadlines.

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial roofing projects, covering both insurance and bid reroof work.

  • Conduct detailed analyses of project specifications, material lists, and drawings.

  • Perform roofing takeoffs from drawings, prints, and other measurements, including site visits as needed.

  • Determine the total cost of materials, equipment, utilities, and labor for commercial roofing scopes.

  • Prepare insurance project estimates in Xactimate and bid reroof estimates in EDGE.


 

Insurance Claims and Adjuster Coordination


  • Meet with insurance adjusters at the project location for adjustment meetings (insurance jobs only).

  • Negotiate scope and pricing with insurance adjusters to support accurate, fully documented claim estimates.

  • Make sure insurance estimates are documented and supported according to carrier and client requirements.


 

Prebid Package and Bid Submission


  • Prepare and submit the full prebid package, including estimate, budget, and schedule.

  • Manage pre-qualification and pre-bid submissions.

  • Make sure all required documents and budgets are submitted before bid deadlines.

  • Work with the internal Prebid review team to finalize estimates and distribute them to the client.


 

Client Communication


  • Communicate with clients (local and corporate) at set intervals to establish and maintain expectations.

  • Share client expectations with internal teams to support a smooth transition into production.


 

Subcontractor, Vendor, and Production Collaboration


  • Work with the project management team and subcontractors to gather the information needed for accurate estimates.

  • Assist with selecting and vetting subcontractors and vendors as needed.

  • Work with the production team to plan, organize, and schedule project work.

  •  


Project Turnover and Support


  • Prepare the turnover package and complete the project handoff to the Project Manager.

  • Re-engage during production as needed to review progress and support the project team.

  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or five (5) or more years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial roofing estimating experience for insurance claims and/or bid reroofs.

  • Experience as a Commercial Roofing Estimator in the general construction field as a general contractor representative.

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating with insurance adjusters.

  • Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.


 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Extensive knowledge of established construction and maintenance practices, procedures, and techniques, as well as applicable local, state, and federal building codes and legislation.

  • Working knowledge of Xactimate and EDGE estimating software.

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills; thorough and attentive to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented, with strong time management and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to collaborate closely with project teams and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and internet-based tools.


 

Preferred Certifications (not required):


  • Xactimate Certification (Level 1 or higher)

  • HAAG Certified Inspector – Commercial Roofs

  • Other roofing, estimating, or insurance claims certifications relevant to company operations are a plus.


 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, insurance adjusters, and other employees of the organization.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

The employee must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and color vision.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This is a full-time position based at the Boca Raton, FL office, with travel to project sites as necessary to collect pertinent information, meet with adjusters, and support project handoff. On project sites, the employee will work at heights on rooftops and may be exposed to ongoing construction, moving equipment, and various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
