Job Description Summary:
The Texas A&M University System is seeking a communications professional to support high-impact, campaign-style communications work across higher education, public policy, and institutional leadership.
This role is designed for someone ambitious, curious, and highly organized-someone who wants to learn how major communications efforts are conceived, shaped, and executed at the system level.
Will work closely with a senior communications leader on strategic messaging, speechwriting support, media materials, rapid-response communications, and long-range narrative development. This is a hands-on role with significant exposure to
senior leaders, public affairs strategy, and complex institutional issues.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development and execution of coordinated communications campaigns across multiple platforms.
- Assist with drafting, editing, and refining speeches, talking points, op-eds, press materials, and internal communications.
- Help track issues, narratives, and media coverage relevant to higher education and public institutions.
- Use Al tools responsibly to support research, drafting, and iteration-always applying human judgment and discretion.
- Manage timelines, drafts, and approvals in fast-moving situations.
- Serve as a thought partner in message development, not just a production resource.
- Anticipate needs and flag potential risks, gaps, or opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of System priorities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science, public affairs, or a related field.
- Four years of relevant experience (which may include, internships, campaign work, or fast-paced communications roles).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to tone, audience, and context.
- Interest in higher education, public service, or institutional leadership.
- Comfort working with Al tools as part of a professional workflow.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work calmly and thoughtfully under time pressure.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with campaign-style communications, government, public affairs, or media relations.
- Familiarity with higher education or large institutions.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information quickly
Other Requirements:
This is a security-sensitive position and is restricted to U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents only. Only complete applications will be considered for employment at The Texas A&M System Offices. Incomplete job application data could result in your application being rejected without an option to reapply. A cover letter and resume may be required in addition to a completed employment application.
All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.
