Summary

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct mandated inspections of Bi-directional Amplifiers in County facilities in accordance with ILA contract requirements
• Perform preventative maintenance on subscriber units, to include portable, mobile, and fixed radio systems
• Develop and implement programming for subscriber units for optimal performance 
• Evaluate firmware and software for compatibility and reliability
• Coordinate with internal and external system users, technicians, and programmers to support system functionality and improvements
• Manage and maintain databases related to system operations
• Install and remove communications equipment as required
• Diagnose and troubleshoots equipment issues to identify root causes
• Perform advanced repairs and coordinate the replacement of malfunctioning hardware
• Transport, deploy, and equipment in field environments as needed
• Escort third-party contractors within secure or restricted areas in compliance with security protocols
• Set up, manage, and dismantle Site on Wheels systems for routine operations
• Attend specialized training programs to maintain technical proficiency and stay current with industry standards
• Performs related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelors degree in RF Engineering, Electrical Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field, and two (2) years RF network experience, radio installation, maintenance, or repair work; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Good knowledge of electricity, electronics, and automotive electrical systems; installation and repair of mobile and fixed radio equipment; base station antenna, microwave antenna, transmission lines, and associated equipment; antenna orientation and radiating patterns; and Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
• Skill in the use of maintenance, testing, and repair tools and equipment; skill in performing diagnostic system tests; skill in logical problem solving; skill in troubleshooting hardware and software related problems
• Ability to install and maintain radio and associated electronic equipment; to detect and eliminate trouble in radio transmitters, receivers, and other electronic devices; to interpret schematic diagrams and technical reference materials; to communicate effectively; and to provide instruction to others.
• Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, Department Heads, Elected/Appointed Officials and co-workers
• Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
• Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
• Must have available transportation during entire workday; required to travel to remote sites within Bexar County
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid Texas Class A Commercial driver's license (CDL) within six (6) months of hire
• Required being on-call 24-hours a day 
• May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Proficient with P25 Trunking architecture and P25 subscriber programming software from Harris and Motorola Solutions.
