Job Description - Community Center Attendant-Full Time

This job works varied hours, including nights and weekends. 



Job Summary:


This position will set up and tear down for events.  Includes moving tables and chairs, laying dance floor, and assembling stage equipment.  Responsible for opening and closing the facility and addressing the needs of clients and vendors.  Priority is to perform custodial tasks, i.e.: emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, mopping, waxing and buffing floors, washing windows, dusting furniture, cleaning vents, fans, walls, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and kitchen facilities. 


 



  • Unlocks and locks the Community Center for groups using the building.

  • Keep the floors clean by sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.

  • Gather trash, replace liners, emptying it in the main dumpsters.

  • Clean restrooms, offices, hallways, lobbies and fill dispensers.

  • Dusts and/or polishes furniture, blinds and equipment.

  • Scrub surfaces clean.

  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning and toiletry supplies.

  • Set up and tear down tables and chairs for the facility.

  • Provides basic information about services and programs.

  • Ensures a clean and neat appearance of the Center at all times, and prepares rooms for programs.

  • Employee will perform a variety of duties involving the upkeep, cleaning and supervision of the Community Center and other duties, as assigned. (This includes duties such as cleaning and maintaining bathrooms, picking up trash, emptying trash cans inside and outside the facility, general cleanup of the facility and general maintenance.

  • Reports facility maintenance issues upon detection to immediate supervisor.

  • Days and hours will vary.

  • Must be available for weekends or night call-outs when necessary.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Provides excellent customer service to the public (i.e.: patrons, vendors) and co-workers including responding to inquiries and requests and resolving customer complaints as necessary in a prompt, effective and courteous manner.



  • Performs normal duties in areas assigned such as day to day center activities, maintenance, special events and programs.



  • Assists staff during various program activities and special events offered by The City of Dayton.

  • Registers customers for programs, rentals and events

  • Assist key staff in facility set-up for organized events as necessary.

  • Answers and directs telephone calls to the proper department.

  • Attends in-service training and additional staff training as necessary.

  • Enforces facility policies, rules and regulations as necessary.

  • Assists in emergency protocol as required in training.

  • Preparation of daily records as required by supervisor.

  • Assists in sanitary operation of facility main floor and restrooms. 

  • Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.



  • Distribution of facility related promotional materials.

  • May also perform unskilled and semi-skilled work necessary to the operation of the center including manual labor, operation of motorized equipment, equipment maintenance, building and grounds maintenance.    

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Education and Experience:


Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Friendly and helpful attitude

  • Attention to detail

  • Knowledge of basic cleaning and janitorial requirements.

  • Skill in using cleaning products and equipment.

  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong communication skills, customer service orientation.

  • Ability to communicate efficiently with the public in person, on phone and in writing with staff to complete all functions of the job. 

  • Ability to read and understand floor plans for event set-ups

  • Ability to operate a  commercial telephone

  • Ability to operate a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner

  • Ability to understand & operate the facilities technical & operating systems

  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule

  • Ability to work with people of all backgrounds

  • Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time 

  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor

  • Ability to move tables, chairs, furniture (for set up of events) and perform manual labor



  • Ability to perform cleaning and maintenance duties

  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing, bending or stooping for extended periods of time 



  • Frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, balancing, use of hands and feet.

  • Ability to function in an environment that may occasionally have strong odors, dust and alcoholic beverages



  • Operate various types of equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, extractors to clean carpet etc.  Checks, cleans and services equipment.

  • Use appropriate chemicals and or cleaners safely and productively according to instructions to ensure personal and public safety.

  • Lifting and carrying moderate (12-20 pounds) and/or in some instance heavy (20-75 pounds) items and occasionally heavier.    Exposure to moving mechanical parts.  



Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, and/or Licenses:



  • High school diploma or GED, or

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance



  • Two years of increasingly responsible experience in leasing, renting, party planning and event planning and scheduling and  performing maintenance work involving the skilled operation of moderate to light construction and maintenance 



  • Valid Texas Driver’s License



Acceptable Experience and Training:


A combination of education and experience that indicates a level of skill and knowledge necessary to fulfill the duties of this position may be considered in lieu of the education 


and the experience requirements listed above.
