Job Description - Community Coach (2026-2027)

Classification: Part-Time, Seasonal
Start Date: Fall, Winter, and Spring Seasons
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, with additional Saturday availability as needed (varies by sport)
Reports To: Head Varsity Coach and Director of Athletics

Sports We Coach (Opportunities Vary by Season)


Fall Sports:


Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Cheerleading, Softball, Flag Football, E-Sports, MS Tennis


Winter Sports:


Basketball, Wrestling, Swimming & Diving, Cheerleading


Spring Sports:


Baseball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field, Golf, Gymnastics


Note: Specific coaching needs vary by season. Please indicate your sport(s) of interest and coaching experience in your application.


What You'll Do


Coach & Develop Student-Athletes


You'll help run practices, teach skills and strategy, and prepare students for competition - all while fostering their growth as athletes and people.



  • Co-lead practices Monday-Friday, 4:00-6:00 PM during your sport's season

  • Provide technical instruction on skills, drills, strategy, and game situations

  • Give constructive feedback that helps athletes improve while building their confidence

  • Prepare athletes for competition through focused, purposeful practice planning

  • Collaborate with head coaches to implement practice plans and team strategy

  • Model proper technique, effort, and attitude in all coaching interactions


Build Character & Sportsmanship


You're not just coaching a sport - you're shaping young people during a formative time in their lives.



  • Promote good sportsmanship in practice, competition, and all team interactions

  • Foster character development through athletics - teaching discipline, resilience, teamwork, accountability, and leadership

  • Lead by example as a positive role model in how you compete, communicate, and carry yourself

  • Create an inclusive team culture where every athlete feels valued and challenged to grow

  • Emphasize effort, improvement, and team-first mentality over individual achievement


Ensure Safety & Supervision


You'll help create a safe, well-supervised environment for all student-athletes.



  • Supervise students at all times during practices, in locker rooms, and on team buses

  • Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants through proper supervision and risk management

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and professional conduct with all students

  • Communicate safety concerns to head coaches and athletic administration promptly


Communicate with Professionalism


You'll interact with students, parents, colleagues, officials, and spectators - always representing Lovett with integrity.



  • Exercise patience, tolerance, and diplomacy when communicating with players, parents, co-workers, contest officials, and spectators

  • Maintain professionalism even in challenging or emotionally charged situations

  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes based on trust, respect, and care

  • Collaborate effectively with fellow coaches and athletic department staff


Who You Are


You bring:



  • Playing or coaching experience in your sport - you know the game and can teach it effectively

  • Passion for working with young athletes - you genuinely enjoy helping students develop

  • Knowledge of technique, strategy, and skill development appropriate to the age level you're coaching

  • Availability Monday-Friday, 4:00-6:00 PM during your sport's season

  • Reliable transportation to get to campus for practices and potentially games/meets

  • Reliable and punctual – Your athletes and fellow coaches can count on you to show up prepared and on time

  • Sportsmanship and integrity that you model in every interaction

  • Growth mindset about your own coaching and your athletes' potential

  • Respect for the developmental stage of the athletes you're coaching (middle school vs. high school athletes have different needs)

  • Commitment to safety and proper supervision of minors

  • Professionalism in dealing with parents, officials, and challenging situations

  • Enthusiasm that makes practice something athletes look forward to


Bonus:



  • Previous coaching experience (youth, high school, college, club)

  • Played your sport at the collegiate or professional level

  • Coaching certifications or licenses in your sport

  • CPR/First Aid certification

  • Experience working in independent schools or educational settings
