Concrete Finisher - El Paso

Working Title: Concrete Finisher or Concrete Mason
Supervisor: Foreman

General Description of Position: Responsible for smoothing out, leveling and finishing freshly poured concrete at job or construction sites. Perform repairs on cured concrete.

Essential functions and responsibilities listed below:

• Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure concrete surfaces


• Set and check the forms that hold concrete to ensure they are well constructed


• Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, and gutters


• Direct the casting of the concrete and supervise laborers who use shovels or special tools to spread it


• Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.


• Mold expansion joints


• Pour concrete ensuring that it is level and smooth


• Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process


• Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms


• Mix and apply cementitious materials for the repair of surface defects in cured concrete


• Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using pneumatic chisels, power grinders, or hand tools


• Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed


• When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor

Specific Equipment and Materials to be used: Operate power vibrator to compact concrete, pneumatic chisel, saws, power grinder and hand tools.

Education:   High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/ or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
