Job Description - Concrete Foreman

The Concrete Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising concrete crews to ensure that all concrete work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role oversees all phases of concrete operations on job sites, including form setting, finishing, curing, and repair, while coordinating with project managers and other field leadership to meet project schedules and specifications. The Concrete Foreman reads and interprets blueprints and construction drawings, directs crew assignments, and ensures full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.

Roles and Responsibilities:


Including but not limited to the list below.



  • Supervise, direct, and mentor concrete crew members, assigning daily tasks and ensuring efficient workflow.

  • Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, construction drawings, and project specifications to ensure accurate execution of all concrete work.

  • Coordinate with project managers and superintendents on scheduling, material needs, and project milestones.

  • Set forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth and verify that forms are properly constructed and aligned prior to pours.

  • Spread, level, and smooth concrete using rakes, shovels, hand or power trowels, screeds, and floats.

  • Monitor how wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of concrete throughout the entire process.

  • Direct the casting of concrete and supervise laborers using shovels and specialty tools.

  • Produce finished concrete surfaces using brooms, edging tools, jointers, and straightedges.

  • Signal truck drivers to position trucks and direct concrete into forms.

  • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete.

  • Operate power vibrators to compact concrete.

  • Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to achieve specified finish.

  • Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete.

  • Waterproof or restore concrete surfaces using appropriate compounds.

  • Wet surfaces to prepare for bonding, and fill holes and cracks with grout, slurry, or epoxy.

  • Direct subgrade work, concrete mixing, and form setting for beams, columns, and panels.

  • Conduct daily safety briefings and enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Inspect completed work for quality and conformance to plans and specifications.

  • Maintain accurate daily logs of crew hours, materials used, and work completed.

  • Perform clean-up in connection with the work.

  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.



Skills and Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. Any vocational training is strongly desired.

  • Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).

  • A minimum of 10 years of concrete finishing and forming experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and project specifications.

  • Thorough knowledge of concrete forming, finishing, curing, and repair methods.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and mentor crew members.

  • Ability to coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other field personnel effectively.

  • Display a willing attitude to learn from others and continuously improve.

  • Possess a strong sense of personal responsibility.

  • Ability to work safely in close proximity to equipment, co-workers, and surroundings.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.

  • Having a Class A CDL is a plus.



Physical Requirements:



  • Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.

  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.

  • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.

  • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.
