Review and interpret architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and project scopes to understand project requirements.
Perform detailed quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment based on commercial project documentation.
Utilize estimating software and Excel to generate accurate cost estimates and bid proposals.
Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes and compare them against project specifications and budgets.
Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify project details and resolve inconsistencies.
Develop cost breakdowns and value engineering recommendations when appropriate.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market pricing, labor rates, and construction industry trends.
Prepare and present detailed estimates and bid packages to clients and internal teams.
Assist with procurement by providing quantity and cost data to the purchasing department.
Support project kickoff meetings and adjust estimates as needed based on design changes or field conditions.
Role Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent work experience.
3+ years of experience as an estimator in commercial construction (office buildings, retail, industrial, etc.).
Strong understanding of construction materials, building systems, and trade sequencing.
Proficiency in reading construction documents and specifications.
Skilled in estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, or similar).
Close attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Physical Demands:
This role primarily involves office-based work with extended periods of sitting while working on a computer. Occasional site visits may be required, which can include walking, standing, or climbing on uneven surfaces. Light lifting of documents, plans, or laptops may be necessary.
