Contingent Primary Care Physician (MD/DO) COPC Outpatient central Ohio

Central Ohio Primary Care is seeking a dedicated, flexible Contingent Primary Care Physician to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will provide high-quality, comprehensive outpatient medical care on an as-needed (PRN) basis to cover peak patient volumes, vacation leaves, and staffing gaps. The ideal candidate will deliver acute, chronic, and preventive medical care to a diverse patient population while seamlessly integrating into our multi-disciplinary clinic environments. Because this is a contingent position, schedule flexibility and adaptability to different clinic workflows are essential.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

1. Direct Clinical Care -

• Patient Examinations: Conduct initial histories, comprehensive physical examinations, and routine wellness check-ups.


• Diagnosis & Treatment: Diagnose and manage both acute illnesses and complex, chronic medical conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, asthma).


• Diagnostic Management: Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory blood work, X-rays, and basic imaging.


• Prescriptive Authority: Prescribe medications, therapies, and vaccinations in alignment with evidence-based best practices and state regulations.


• Preventive Medicine: Deliver health screenings, immunizations, and patient education focusing on nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and disease prevention.

1. Care Coordination & Collaboration -

• Specialist Referrals: Identify patient needs outside the scope of general primary care and manage referrals to appropriate medical specialists.


• Interdisciplinary Support: Collaborate closely with a team of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care.


• Patient Advocacy: Communicate test results, treatment pathways, and medical advice compassionately and clearly to patients and their families.

1. Administrative & Quality Assurance -

• Electronic Health Records (EHR): Maintain timely, highly accurate, and legally compliant medical documentation within the facility’s EHR platform. COPC uses EPIC.


• Compliance: Adhere strictly to HIPAA privacy standards, OSHA rules, Joint Commission guidelines, and standard clinic policies.


• Peer Review: Participate in peer review programs, staff meetings, and quality improvement activities when active on shift.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.


• Residency: Successful completion of an accredited residency program in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.


• Licensure: Unrestricted, active license to practice medicine in the state of practice.


• Certifications:




• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.


• Active, unrestricted federal DEA Registration number for prescribing controlled substances.


• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.




• Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in an outpatient primary care setting is preferred; new graduates with strong residency references will be considered.

Compensation and Benefits:

$125.00 per hour.

No company benefits available due to shift work.

Physical & Work Environment Demands

• Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods in an outpatient clinic setting.


• This is a contingent (PRN) position with no guaranteed weekly hours. Schedules will vary based on clinic demands, covering shifts that may include weekdays, occasional evenings, or weekend urgent care hours
