GENERAL SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, and in coordination with the O&M services contract, performs the control room operation of main units and other plant equipment, and minor maintenance duties as required.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS 

• Operates plant equipment and switchgear, which have their controls in the control room. Operates plant power units including starting up, paralleling and shutting down the main unit.


• Places into service and removes from service various plant equipment and auxiliaries.


• Well-versed in actions required to place plant equipment in a safe condition during emergency situations.


• Performs, or assists in routine maintenance of equipment under his/her control; and performs in a maintenance mode when working his/her relief week (and not relieving other operators), for all overhauls, and other major maintenance-related downtimes.


• Maintains station by way of consistent housekeeping and safety checks for potential safety hazards.


• Assists, as required, in the training and orientation of new Control Room Operators, O&M Technicians, and Assistant Plant Operators.


• Writes switching orders and performs necessary switching.


• Must be available for overtime, rotating shifts, and emergency callouts.


• Must be willing to work on a temporary basis as O&M Technician and/or Shift Supervisor.


• Other tasks as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 

Physical requirements include sitting, standing and walking. Occasional periods of lifting and climbing. 

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum four (4) years experience in power plant operator functions, to include demonstrated experience in operating a power plant control room and all related auxiliary functions. High school diploma, or equivalent, required.


• Demonstrated knowledge of all facets of the principles of power production, control room operation, including knowledge of maintenance functions as relates to the control room, operating procedures, system operating orders, and clearance procedures.


• Demonstrated ability to clear equipment, write switching orders, and perform necessary switching.


• Good communication skills.
