Control Room Operator

Shift Information: Swing/rotating shifts may be assigned to days or nights on rotation. 

Position Summary: The Control Room Operator will operate and monitor the resin coating and infusion process from the control room, including the batch heater, mixers, cooler, screening equipment, RTO (regenerative thermal oxidizer), forklift, and related equipment. This role performs grading and packaging functions involved in the processing and production of finished products and will also perform related maintenance tasks, including operating maintenance at a minimum. Conducts all work in accordance with the CARBO Mission Statement and Core Values.

Key Roles / Responsibilities:

• Operate the batch mixer using the HMI in the control room and visually observe the mixing process to ensure all ingredients have been introduced to the batch and mixed properly.


• Operate and monitor the batch heater, cooler, screening equipment, RTO, and other resin coating process equipment using the control room HMI.


• Monitor and log process variables for the entire process and make adjustments as needed to produce quality product within specification.


• Maintain accurate and up-to-date production records. Monitor and record process inventory levels.


• Ensure proper substrate levels and chemical feed levels are maintained for continuous operation of the plant, coordinating with the Utility Operator as needed.


• Perform grading and packaging functions for finished products, including bagging material when required.


• Discard and record scrap produced during the process.


• Clean (chip) the mixer as required and assist with mixer cleanouts.


• Perform related maintenance tasks, including operating maintenance at a minimum.


• Maintain good housekeeping in the control room and process area.


• Perform other related duties and/or special projects as required.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

• Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts including nights & weekends if the need arises.


• High school diploma or GED required.


• Experience with general labor work is required.


• Previous production operator experience and ability to analyze data for cause and effect.


• Experience operating process equipment from an HMI or control room environment preferred.


• Forklift experience preferred.


• Recent or previous experience warehousing and/or QC lab experience preferred.


• Ability to read and write; ability to comprehend oral and written instructions.

Working Conditions:

• Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.


• The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.


• Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment.


• Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; exposure to dust, fumes, gases, and resins/chemicals; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.


• Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.


• Able to work under stressful conditions at times.

• React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.

•  Must be able to lift 50-pound bags and move and lift a 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.


•  Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.


•  Must be able to work at elevated heights and in confined or cramped spaces when required.


•  This is a safety sensitive position that requires the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.


• Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.


• Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.


• Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.


• Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
