Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial operations across multiple divisions, including CVB, PAC, FOKC, Membership, Grants, and Partnerships. This role oversees a small accounting team and is responsible for accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with nonprofit and government grant requirements. The Controller will also provide financial insights to leadership to support strategic planning and organizational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership
Supervise 2 accounting staff and oversee daily accounting operations
Manage AP/AR, credit card approvals, check signing, and related financial controls
Ensure accuracy and efficiency of core accounting processes
Financial Reporting & Close
Lead monthly and annual close processes
Prepare financial statements, reconciliations, budgets, and management reports
Oversee consolidated and division-level reporting across multiple entities
Multi-Division Financial Management
Support financial operations for CVB, PAC, FOKC, Membership, and Partnerships
Oversee pledge tracking, commissions, and ethics-related filings
Ensure accurate reporting across multiple funding streams and programs
Grants & Compliance
Manage grant accounting and compliance (including EDA, CJAC, ARPA-related funding)
Maintain SAM.gov registration and submission requirements
Support grant reporting, audits, and funding coordination
Audit, Tax & Special Projects
Support annual audits and tax filings, including Form 990/990-NEC
Assist with budget development and event/campaign financial tracking
Lead ARPA closeout and other special financial projects
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
7+ years of progressive accounting experience
3+ years of supervisory or accounting management experience
Strong experience with month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Experience managing multi-division or multi-entity accounting environments
Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification strongly preferred
Experience in nonprofit, association, chamber, or membership-based organizations
Strong background in grant accounting, compliance, and reporting
Experience with Form 990/990-NEC and external audit coordination

This role is best suited for professionals with experience in nonprofit or public-sector finance, including organizations such as chambers of commerce, universities, healthcare nonprofits, or government-related entities.
Strong candidates will have hands-on experience with:
Fund accounting (restricted vs. unrestricted funds)
Federal/state grant compliance and reporting (including SAM.gov and ARPA-related funding)
Multi-entity or divisional financial structures
Audit preparation and regulatory reporting
Public accounting professionals with nonprofit audit and tax experience are also strongly considered.
