Cooling Tower Technician

We are looking for a Cooling Tower Technician in the Mountainside, NJ market on behalf of a premier mechanical and industrial services provider specializing in cooling tower maintenance. Backed by a high-performing field team of skilled technicians across their regional branches, this industry leader delivers top-tier field service, mechanical repairs, and preventative maintenance.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform sheet fill and block fill replacements, patch work, leak fixes, fan stack maintenance, and piping repairs.
• Rig and replace motors and gearboxes using chain hoists and proper rigging hardware; verify rotation, amperage, and drive shaft alignment.
• Measure, cut, prime, glue, and press PVC and copper piping; perform proper flange tightening.
• Perform full tower inspections independently, operate VFDs in Auto/Hand/Bypass modes, read/diagnose fault codes, and identify abnormal noise or vibration.
• Manage sub-trades (cranes, electricians, riggers) on-site; sequence multi-day work to minimize tower downtime.
• Complete same-day photo-documented electronic service reports via company tablet/apps (Ramp); escalate out-of-scope work or site issues to Project Managers.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 4 years of mechanical experience in tower maintenance, mechanical contracting, or related trades.
• Demonstrated experience working on cooling towers combined with strong mechanical aptitude.
• Proficient with rigging gear (chain hoists, slings, shackles), power/hand tools, multimeters, and operating scissor/boom lifts.
• Candidates coming from water treatment backgrounds with exposure to cooling towers and pumps are strongly encouraged to apply.
