Coordinates administrative and/or operational functions of an organizational unit under the supervision of a manager or director. May supervise and/or provide guidance to employees or be responsible for the management of programs, initiatives or events.
Strategic Outreach, Engagement, and Partnerships (55%)
• Develops and implements strategic outreach and engagement initiatives designed to
increase awareness, access, and utilization of VMSS programs and services among
veteran and military-affiliated students.
• Establishes and maintains partnerships with military installations, veteran-serving
organizations, community agencies, alumni, and campus stakeholders to support
recruitment, transition, persistence, and student success.
• Represents the University at military installations, recruitment events, orientation
programs, community engagement activities, conferences, and professional meetings.
• Coordinates and promotes programs, workshops, networking opportunities, recognition
ceremonies, and signature events that foster connection, belonging, and engagement
among military-affiliated students.
• Serves as a liaison to student veteran organizations and collaborates with campus
departments including Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Career Services,
Counseling Services, and Enrollment Management to ensure coordinated support for
veteran and military-affiliated students.
• Provides training, presentations, and educational programming for faculty, staff, student
leaders, and campus partners regarding the unique experiences, strengths, and needs of
veteran and military-affiliated students.
• Supports institutional efforts to foster military-affiliated student success, belonging, and
engagement throughout the university community.
VA School Certifying Official (SCO) (30%)
• Processes the certification of VA educational benefits in compliance with federal and
state regulations.
• Reviews and submits enrollment certifications, maintains accurate records for audits, and
advises students and families on eligibility, benefits, and enrollment requirements.
• Coordinates with Academic Advising, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and the Bursar’s
Office to ensure timely and accurate processing of educational benefits.
• Monitors changes to federal and state regulations, maintains compliance with Department
of Veterans Affairs requirements, and assists in the development and implementation of
office procedures related to veteran educational benefits administration.
Assessment, Reporting, and Compliance Support (10%)
• Assists with departmental assessment, reporting, and strategic planning efforts related to
outreach, engagement, and student participation initiatives.
• Collects and analyzes data to evaluate program effectiveness, identify emerging trends,
and recommend opportunities to enhance support for veteran and military-affiliated
students.
• Maintains an up-to-date understanding of university, state, and federal regulations
impacting veteran and military-affiliated students.
• Assists with compliance activities, audits, reports, and information requests from internal
and external stakeholders, including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Tennessee
Higher Education Commission, and other regulatory agencies.
Performs other related duties as assigned. (5%)
A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience in student affairs, student engagement, recruitment, military or veteran services, higher education administration, community outreach, or related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
