• High school diploma

Job Summary:

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Admits persons committed to the Iberville Parish Jail.


• Places inmates under confinement, in cells or in other detention areas as directed.


• Searches inmates upon arrival to the parish jail and upon reentering the jail facility from another assigned area.


• Maintains good order and conduct throughout the jail.


• Responsible for the care, custody and restraint, when necessary, of inmates as assigned.


• Performs daily security inspections of inmates and cell areas for contraband, escape attempts, unauthorized articles, weapons, etc.


• Exercises reasonable and/or special care or action, as the need dictates or as directed, in handling special or unusual inmates.


• Searches and removes all unauthorized personal articles and contraband from all prisoners.


• Ensures the cleanliness of the area of assigned responsibility.


• Assigns and directs inmates to work details as required.


• Supervises and interacts with adults & juveniles, sentenced and non-sentenced inmates.


• Conducts head counts to ensure that all inmates are present.


• Monitors the conduct of prisoners during work or recreational activities according to established policies, regulations, and procedures to prevent escape or violence.


• Records information, such as prisoner identification, charges and incidences of inmate disturbances, and keeps daily logs of inmate activities.


• Conducts fire, safety and sanitation inspections.


• Serves meals, distributes commissary items and dispenses prescribed medications to prisoners.


• Issues clothing, tools or other authorized items to inmates.


• Provides to supervisors oral and written reports of the quality and quantity of work performed by inmates, inmate disturbances, rule violations and unusual occurrences.


• Performs other related duties as assigned.
