Craftsperson- 2nd Shift

Description

Prep aluminium surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and masking them, then applying a dry powder coating using a spray gun, followed by curing the coating in an oven to create a durable finish, while performing quality checks throughout the process to ensure the final product meets specifications; key responsibilities may include furniture preparation, powder application, oven operation, and quality inspection. 

Key responsibilities of a powder coater may include:

• Surface preparation:
  Cleaning, sanding, and masking metal parts to ensure proper powder adhesion. 
• Powder application:
  Operating a powder coating spray gun to evenly apply powder coating to prepared surfaces. 
• Color selection:
  Selecting the correct powder color according to customer specifications. 
• Loading and unloading parts:
  Loading parts onto racks or fixtures for powder coating and unloading them after curing. 
• Quality inspection:
  Performing visual checks to identify any defects in the powder coating, 
• Maintenance:
  Cleaning and maintaining powder coating equipment, including spray guns,booths,filters and ovens. 
• Following safety protocols:
  Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety shoes and glasses, and breathing protection depending on tasks being performed

Skills and qualifications for a powder coating job:

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate machinery
• Attention to detail and color perception
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Ability to lift and handle heavy parts
• Basic understanding of surface preparation techniques
• Knowledge of different powder coating types and their applications 
• Wears required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes and glasses, and optional PPE such as hearing, and breathing protection depending on tasks being performed.
• Demonstrates problem solving and decision making abilities related to individual tasks and department performance objectives.
• Maintains excellent attendance to ensure responsibilities are achieved. Five day work week with occasional overtime required.
• Works in a production facility without air conditioning, with production noises, and dust. 
• Position requires excellent eye-hand coordination, bending, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, walking, and ability to lift up to 70 pounds unassisted on a regular and frequent daily basis.
