The Crane Operator is a highly skilled equipment operator responsible for safely operating hydraulic cranes and other heavy construction equipment on water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role requires expertise in excavation, utility work, trench safety, and operating around existing underground utilities.
The ideal candidate is a safety-focused professional with experience operating cranes and heavy equipment in complex construction environments.
What You'll Do
Who You Are
- Operate hydraulic cranes and various heavy construction equipment, including:
- Lattice boom crawler cranes (50+ tons)
- Excavators
- Backhoes
- Loaders
- Rollers
- Reach forks
- Water trucks and related equipment
- Perform lifting, rigging, and placement of materials in accordance with project plans and safety requirements
- Dig trenches and install large-diameter pipe
- Install trench jacks, trench boxes, and shoring systems
- Safely perform potholing and excavation activities around existing utilities
- Follow Blue Stake (811) requirements and procedures
- Perform daily equipment inspections, maintenance checks, and documentation
- Identify and report equipment issues, site hazards, and safety concerns
- Maintain compliance with OSHA trench safety requirements and company safety standards
- Work closely with Superintendents, Foremen, and crew members to support project goals
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced equipment operators as needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
What You'll Do
Required Qualifications
- Hydraulic crane certification
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- 5 years of demonstrated experience operating cranes and heavy construction equipment
- Knowledge of excavation and utility construction practices
- Understanding of Blue Stake (811) requirements and OSHA trench safety regulations
- Commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Trade school or vocational training in heavy equipment operation
- Experience working on underground utility, water, or wastewater projects
