Creative writer or linguist for Game Stories Simplified Chinese into Japanese (Remote)

We are looking for a Japanese-native vendor for an exciting game localization project, you will re-write and localize story-rich game scripts from Simplified Chinese into Japanese – with the freedom to make the prose shine, not just convey meaning. If you have a portfolio of original stories, novels, or scripts, and an avid gamer, we want to hear from you.

Important information:
a. This position is on a freelance contract.
b. Duration: Specific duration will be discussed with PM later(estimated 3 months, with potential extension for long-term cooperation)
c. Working hours (preferred, but not mandatory): Core Business Hours in APAC, Mon. – Fri.
d. Set-up: remote

Responsibilities:
a. Translate/Localize and perform creative writing for gaming contents from Simplified Chinese to Japanese.
b. Collaborate closely with the localization team and development team – communicate translation needs, help resolve issues during the translation process.

Requirements:
a. Native/Native-level Japanese (Japanese nationals strongly preferred).
b. Prior experience in copy writing and creative writing in Japanese. Writing original stories, novels, books or scripts is highly desirable, with a strong emphasis on creative writing skills and imaginative thinking.
c. ACTIVE GAMER – you must have played story-driven/narrative-heavy games. You understand common gaming jargon, UI terms, and player psychology.
d. Basic to intermediate Chinese reading ability.
e. Experience working for a variety of game types or genres.
