The Role You'll Play
The Crisis Therapist provides immediate behavioral health assessments, crisis intervention, and short-term clinical support to individuals experiencing a psychiatric or emotional crisis. This role supports various service areas, primarily responsible for the coordination of care for clients that have recently been engaged in crisis services. Provides assessments for those needing acute inpatient hospitalization or other crisis resources. Completes crisis assessments for walk in clients, co-responder support for RCPD, mobile crisis assessments, emergent crisis assessments for local ER and Jail facilities, and provide intervention to clients admitted to the Crisis Stabilization Unit. The Crisis Therapist plays a critical role in stabilizing clients, facilitating appropriate level-of-care decisions, and connecting individuals to ongoing services.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Conducts comprehensive clinical assessments and inpatient psychiatric evaluation as a part of the diagnostic process, ongoing provision of services, and/or crisis intervention.
a. Identifies individual needs and diagnoses substance use and /or mental health disorders.
b. Assesses individual risk for suicide and other safety related concerns; determines the need for medication evaluation and referral
c. Assesses individuals under the influence of substances or experiencing substance withdrawal and supports in finding stabilization options or in house social detoxification services.
2. Interprets and communicates relevant information to individuals, families and other stakeholders with the ability to communicate effectively under stress and in a fast-paced environment.
3. Provide joint response in the field working with law enforcement in Riley County to de-escalate situations and assist in triage of most appropriate level of care referral. Must have the physical capacity to respond to calls at any location and be able to drive a company vehicle.
4. Aid in access to recommended services such as inpatient hospitalization, substance abuse services, outpatient therapy, Adult/Youth Community Services, and other psychiatric services as needed.
5. Complete intakes for clients admitted to the Crisis Stabilization Unit as needed to aid with closing the loop on accessing additional services upon discharge.
6. Complete other specialized evaluations as trained - Comp Evals, PAR/CBST, etc.
7. Respond to community situations as trained to provide Critical Incident Support.
8. Complete involuntary assessments as needed for those meeting that level of care need.
9. Attend court hearings for involuntary assessments completed. Court hearings are held with little notice within 72 business hours of assessment being received by the courts.
10. Meet regularly with adult clients admitted to CSU to aid in discharge planning.
11. Meet and comply with all administrative and clinical documentation requirements for clinical staff.
12. Attend and actively participate in clinical supervision.
13. Complete and stay up to date on all State of Kansas required trainings and requirements for position.
14. Perform all other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other management personnel.
Required:
· Licensed by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board of the State of Kansas and able to meet the statutory definition of Qualified Mental Health Professional.
· Strong oral and written communication skills using the English language.
· Basic personal computer skills required.
Preferred:
· Independent clinical license (LCPC, LCMFT, LP, LSCSW) and/or participate in clinical supervision in accordance with a supervision plan established with the Kansas
· State approved QMHP and Case Management Training from KDADs. If not- will be completed at first available opportunity after employment.
· Experience with Microsoft Office Software preferred
· Certified in Basic CPR, First Aid, and/or MANDT – if not, will be required to certify at the earliest opportunity.
· Understanding of substance use issues and experience working with addictions.
· Addictions licensure from the KS BSRB- LMAC, LAC, LCAC
