WAGE: $16.00 Per Hour Negotiable based on experience with youth and programming.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Community Service Worker will be a team member with other Community Services Workers to carry out the goals and objectives of the Family Services Program and plan and coordinate recreational activities for  Mohican Family Center.  The worker will work with 6-12 grade youth and will be responsible   to help implement all aspects of the youth programming including health which includes the HIV/AIDS grant, ATODA prevention and education and cultural component.  Assist with coordination and planning and implementing recreational leagues and community events.  Responsible for increasing participation of youth and parents.  Will work cooperatively with all Community Services Workers, under the direction of the Family Services Manager


 


STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:


All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:


1.  Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.


2.  Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description


3.  Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record


4.  Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays


5.  Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License as stated on job description


 


DUTIES:


1.       Will assist other Community Services Worker/Fitness assistants with planning, implementing and officiating recreational leagues.


2.       Will assist other Community Services Workers with planning, organize and implement substance abuse prevention strategies to support all components of youth programming as needed for meeting work plan outcomes. Will provide a variety of activities and learning experiences for youth, including opportunities to explore alternative drug free areas of interest, promote healthy goals and approaches involving family and the community.


3.       Must present as a drug-free, violence free role model and/or mentor to youth, and community members during activities and field trips.


4.       Responsible for direct involvement in short and long-term program planning.


5.       Responsible for increasing participation of families through recruiting with emphasis on youth.


6.       Network and coordinate services with other tribal programs, responsible for referring youth or families to appropriate services, through Family Services Manager, as needed


7.       Prepare reports and keep statistical information for necessary reports monthly and semi-annually.  Provide monthly informational articles, pictures of youth and families to Mohican News and to the Family Services Monthly newsletter in accordance to grant requirements.


8.       Create monthly calendar of events


9.       Will provide field trips and chaperone youth field trips, help ensure proper preparation for tips and observe emergency precautions during trips


10.   Will assist in the responsibility to maintain the general cleanliness and staff operations of the program vehicles and program rooms


11.   Will report any maintenance concerns regarding program vehicles to the Property Manager including scheduling of oil changes etc.


12.   Prepare and serve daily snack/light suppers. Clean kitchen and prep space when finished.


13.   Participate in staff meetings and be a team member.


14.   Assist participants that enter the Mohican Family Center while at front desk.  May include some clerical duties, i.e., answer phones, take messages, and help with memberships.


15.   Must show initiative and self-motivation.


16.   Must be able to work evenings, and weekends with flexibility.


17.   Must help with all areas  the program/building when needed.


18.   Assist with fulfilling all of Family Services grant objectives, HIV, Shelter, Tutor, Low income, Domestic Violence, Teen Pregnancy grant.


19.   Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.


20.   Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.


21.   Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.


22.   Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.


23.   May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.


24.   The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position.  The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


1.       High School Diploma or G.E.D., additional related education helpful.


2.       Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification.


3.       Must be able to work with minimal supervision.


4.       Flexible hours will include nights, weekends and holidays.


5.       Must have good oral and written communication skills.


6.       Must be able to interact with the public, be respectful and mature.


7.       Experience working with youth and have had direct involvement with recreational activities.


8.       Must have knowledge or be familiar with the culture and history of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community is preferred.


9.       Must be willing to attend all applicable training.


10.    Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening.  Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.


11.   Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.


12.   Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.


13.   Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.


14.   Must submit and pass a background security check to meet the Elder/Youth License Requirement as it pertains to the position and the location of the department prior to and during the course of employment with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.


15.   Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.  Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license.  Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance.


16.   Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.


 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: 


1. This position requires a lot of sitting with occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.


2. Evening and/or weekend is required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.


3. Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene due to working in close proximity to others and in an enclosed area.


4. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test may be required.
