The ideal CSPD Sterile Processing Supervisor is a strong,
people -centered leader who can effectively supervise and develop a
team of up to eight staff members while fostering a productive,
accountable, and collaborative shift culture. This individual excels
at balancing daily operational priorities with broader departmental
goals and brings strong coaching, communication, and problem -solving
skills to the role.
The successful candidate confidently manages attendance,
performance, disciplinary actions, and Performance Improvement Plans
(PIPs), while handling difficult conversations with professionalism
and empathy. They serve as a key liaison between frontline staff and
the corporate office, helping ensure a positive and seamless employee experience.
Job Summary
This role oversees the daily workflow of the Sterile Processing
department, ensuring best practices in decontamination, sterilization,
and instrument preparation are consistently followed. The Supervisor
also uses key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor performance,
identify opportunities for improvement, and support operational excellence.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the departmental Manager or
assigned Clinical Director
Job Functions
- Provides supervision of day -to -day business operations
of the unit.
- Maintains technical competence and CSPD technician skill set.
- Provides on the floor supervision of department specific
to assigned shift.
- Oversees flow of work and production volume to ensure
instrumentation is available for customers.
- Responds to quality issues with OR and other
departmental customers.
- Oversees monthly schedule and coordinates daily shift
staffing needs consistent with unit staffing plan and
budget.
- Monitors loaner tray processing for the next day and
coordinates all vendor issues with the goal of monitoring
loaner tray inventory.
- Monitors preventive maintenance of equipment and instrumentation.
- Monitors all unit quality measures including
sterilization records, case cart completion and regulatory
compliance standards.
- Monitors staff execution of standard work holding staff
accountable for work quantity/quality and adherence to
safety standards.
- Identifies individual staff orientation and ongoing
learning needs and coordinates individual learning
plan with CSPD instructor.
- Provides ongoing feedback to staff concerning
performance and collaborates with department managers in
completing annual performance reviews.
- Initiates coaching and positive disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Demonstrates ability to provide necessary leadership to
employees in assigned area.
- Collaborates with department leadership team to identify
improvement needs and monitor quality indicators.
- Maintains awareness of standards and changes within
health care and CSPD industry.
- Promotes high levels of staff engagement, performance,
and retention.
- Demonstrates decision making/problem solving
skills.

Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience:
- High school diploma - required
- Sterile Processing Technician HSPA or CBSPD
Certification - required
- Minimum of three (3) years of CSPD experience required
- Some college or college level courses - preferred
- Progressive leadership experience - preferred
- CIS (or an equivalent certification) - preferred
