Custodian

Position Summary

The appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning, and tidying the premises. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs general cleaning and janitorial duties in the common areas of the building.
• Takes out trash and cardboard boxes
• Sweeps and mops floors and vacuums carpets
• Washes and sanitizes toilets, sinks and countertops and restock disposables (e.g., soap)
• Cleans mirrors, doors, and windows
• Maintains a neat and orderly janitor’s room; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
• Performs maintenance and minor repairs (changing HVAC filters, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.)

Required Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
• Detail-oriented and thorough.
• Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
• Ability to keep the facility clean and orderly.
• Ability to interact with staff and visitors while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.

Education, Experience, and Other Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must pass a background check.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods standing.
• Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
• Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident (due to company contracts falling under the ITAR).
