Customer Service and Produce Meat Clerk PT

Purpose of the Role

The Produce/Meat Clerk helps create a fresh and inviting shopping experience by maintaining clean, well-stocked displays of produce, meat, seafood, and floral. This role supports Weaver Street Market’s mission by delivering friendly customer service, ensuring product quality and safety, and working efficiently to support department goals. Produce/Meat Clerks embody the values of cooperation, community, and shared success through teamwork and care for our food systems.

A. Primary Duties of the Role

• Provide excellent customer service by greeting shoppers, answering questions, taking special orders, and resolving concerns with professionalism.
• Stock and rotate produce, meat, seafood, and floral items in designated areas. Prep and process items following safety, quality, and appearance standards.
• Maintain an orderly department: clean prep room, sales floor, displays, and shared spaces. Sweep, mop, re-ice displays, and remove trash and recycling as needed.
• Receive deliveries and process invoices accurately. Inspect product for quality and coordinate transfers with other locations as needed.
• Work safely and efficiently, both independently and as part of a team.
• Follow opening and closing procedures, including accurate completion of shift checklists.
• Use Microsoft Teams to check department messages, store/unit updates, and co-op-wide news. Post and respond as needed to support clear and respectful communication among all employees.
• Address routine issues; communicate non-routine concerns to the department manager or manager on duty.
• Assist with inventory counts and ordering as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support all departments and Weaver Street Market as a whole. 
• Serve as cashier for full or half shifts.

C. Required Qualifications and Certifications

• A working knowledge of English is required for this customer-facing role
• 18+ years of age
• Ability to safely use basic food prep tools and equipment
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience preferred

D. Preferred Experience and Knowledge

• Previous experience in a supermarket, produce, or food service environment
• Familiarity with produce and meat product handling
• Prior experience in customer service
• Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and/or Paylocity applications

E. Physical Requirements

• Standing and walking for long periods
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds regularly
• Pushing and pulling carts, pallet jacks, and equipment
• Bending and twisting to stock, prep, and clean
• Use of hands and fine motor skills for cutting, stacking, and labeling
• Work in refrigerated walk-ins and outdoor areas
• Use of equipment such as pallet jacks, wrapping machines, and stock carts
• Use of stairs (Southern Village and Raleigh stores)
