DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide services and supports that will enrich an individual’s life, teach skills that will enable the individual to become a productive member of the community and allow them to live as productively and independently as possible.

CRITICAL ELEMENTS:

1) Ensure Safety: Day Program Service(DSP) at the Hanover Day Program have frequent direct interactions with consumers. DSP’s must be observant for safety issues, correcting what they can and reporting items that they cannot correct to the Day Program Supervisor or other Bell management. Examples would include:

a) When on outings, closely supervise consumers in the community who do not have traffic safety skills.

b) Assisting to conduct fire drills.

c) Replace smoke detector batteries.

d) Assure seatbelts are worn in vehicles.

e) Report problems or potential problems.

f) Report any suspicions of abuse.

g) Utilize universal precautions by following Bell’s exposure control plan.

2) Meet the Consumers’ Needs: All services provided are individualized. Because consumer needs vary, the consumer’s program is dependent on each person’s needs. Some consumers may need “hands on” assistance, while others may need only supervision or reminders to carry out tasks. Examples of this category may include:

a) Administer medications.

b) Transport consumers on outings.

c) Assist individuals who are physically unable to self-feed in eating.

d) Teaching skills.

e) Assist individuals to become involved members of their community.

f) Implement and provide information on intervention plans.

g) Assist in transferring individuals in wheelchairs to other locations.

h) Assist in toileting needs.

3) Communicate with Others: The DSP needs to become an expert on the individuals with whom they are assigned to work. Information needs to be communicated in a timely, accurate and professional manner for services to run smoothly. Communication includes both verbal and written information. Examples of this area are:

a) Interact positively and professionally with consumers.

b) Interact respectfully with families and other staff.

c) Accept instructions from your supervisor.

d) Keep your supervisor informed of important information.

e) Participate in goal development.

f) Document charts and books accurately.

g) Assure that incidents are reported to the point person in a timely fashion and in accordance with State Regulations.

h) Complete time sheets accurately and submit them to the Day Program Supervisor in a timely manner.

i) Complete all required paperwork correctly and timely.

j) Report medication errors to your supervisor.

k) Request permission to miss work for vacation or illness from your supervisor.

l) File documents in consumer files.

4) Implement All Regulatory Requirements: The DSW must be familiar with all applicable regulations. You are responsible for providing service in a manner consistent with regulations and for reporting areas where corrections are needed.

5) Implement Services In a Manner Consistent With Bell’s Philosophies: The DSW must be familiar with Bell’s and the Intellectual Disability Department’s Policy and Procedures Manual as well as with Bell’s philosophical beliefs. The DSW must provide services in a manner that is consistent with the policies, procedures and ideologies of Bell and the Office of Intellectual Disability. In the Intellectual Disability Department, philosophies utilized include Person-Centered Planning, Positive Approaches, Normalization/Social Role Valorization, and Everyday Lives. In conjunction with the above ideologies, Bell utilizes behavioral psychology.

ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS:

1) Report to work on time.

2) Follow through on assigned tasks.

3) Complete time sheets accurately.

4) Request changes in schedule in advance and give at least two (2) hours’ notice of illness.

5) Maintain the facility for neatness and cleanliness.

6) Show initiative by looking for tasks.

7) Provide a variety of experiences to consumers, based on consumers’ interests.

8) Support consumers in exercising their rights.

9) Support consumers’ choices and preferences.

10) Interact as part of the Multidisciplinary Team.

11) Other duties as assigned by Day Program Supervisor.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; minimum age 21 years; current Pennsylvania Driver’s License, insurable driving record and reliable transportation; current physical and Mantoux (TB) and free from contagious diseases; Act 33 Clearance and Pennsylvania State Police Background Check. E.O.E
