Job Description - Delivery Engineer Cloud & Automation

About Bluestaq
At Bluestaq, we build secure data platforms that matter for space missions, national defense, healthcare systems, and commercial innovation. Founded in 2018, we've become a leader in enterprise software and secure data management by staying focused on what counts: modern architecture, operational excellence, and mission impact.

We're engineers, problem-solvers, and builders who take the mission seriously, but not ourselves. We automate the repeatable, question the status quo, and design systems that are as reliable as they are scalable. Whether we're supporting space, defense systems, or healthcare advancements, we build with the same principles: cloud-native solutions, security by design, and relentless simplicity.

Our name? "Blue" (military shorthand for the good guys) and "staq" (as in software stack). It's who we are, mission-aligned technologists building platforms that protect the world’s most valuable data.

Recognized Excellence We've earned national recognition as one of Inc. Magazine's Fastest-Growing Private Companies and consistently rank among Colorado's Best Workplaces. But what we're most proud of? The systems we build, the teams we develop, and the mission outcomes we enable.

Delivery Engineer — Cloud & Automation

Design and Integrate Systems for Mission Success

As a Delivery Engineer at Bluestaq, you'll deliver integrated, verified systems that meet operational requirements across both government and commercial environments. You’ll operate with growing independence, taking ownership of infrastructure, environments, and system components end-to-end, partnering with Product, Program, Architecture, and adjacent engineering teams to deliver outcomes that matter to customers operating in complex, high-stakes environments.

You’ll bring a well-rounded technical foundation across systems, cloud platforms, and automation, applying practical engineering judgment to support both internal platform environments and customer-facing deployments.

Why This Role Matters

Bluestaq delivers integrated, secure, and reliable systems for customers operating in mission-critical and commercially demanding environments. Systems engineering is at the core of how we win, deliver, and scale. Without strong systems engineering execution, our teams can't move fast, our systems can't stay secure, and our customers can't rely on the technology that supports their operations.

This role is foundational to the team and the organization. Your work spans defined features, environments, and components within a team, with growing independence, which means your decisions, your designs, and your technical judgment have a direct and measurable effect on what Bluestaq delivers. We're building a culture of ownership and technical excellence, and we need people who bring both depth and the right mindset to do it.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Delivery & Technical Excellence

  • Support the design, integration, and operation of production systems and supporting infrastructure within your team’s scope

  • Contribute to provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of Windows and Linux environments across cloud and on-prem deployments

  • Apply automation and scripting to improve reliability, repeatability, and deployment efficiency (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Terraform, Ansible, or similar)

  • Participate in debugging and resolving system and infrastructure issues across environments, escalating with context when needed

  • Contribute to documentation so others can understand, operate, and maintain systems and environments

  • Support observability and operational health through monitoring, logging, and system performance awareness

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Owners and Program partners to clarify requirements and manage scope

  • Collaborate with Software, Platform, Security, and Operations teams to ensure systems are deployable, secure, and operable

  • Communicate status, blockers, and risks clearly in team forums and async updates

  • Participate in customer-facing deployments, integrations, or technical support activities as needed

  • Build working relationships with adjacent team members to understand cross-team dependencies

Growth, Mentorship & Culture

  • Provide light mentorship to Associate-level colleagues; help them ramp up faster

  • Invest in your own growth by tackling work at the edge of your current skills

  • Share knowledge through documentation, internal talks, and peer conversations

  • Accept and apply feedback from design discussions and reviews constructively

Outcomes

  • You reliably deliver system components, environments, and automation work independently with minimal re-work

  • Your contributions improve system stability, deployment efficiency, and operational clarity

  • You contribute meaningfully to technical discussions and help raise the team's quality bar

  • Your teammates and leads know they can count on you to follow through on commitments

  • You grow your systems, cloud, and automation capabilities continually and seek out stretch opportunities

  • Your work directly contributes to secure, scalable systems that customers depend on

Qualifications & Skills

  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or a closely related discipline

  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux systems administration fundamentals

  • Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Terraform, Ansible, or similar)

  • Exposure to monitoring, logging, or operational tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar)

  • Understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar)

  • Strong engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills

  • Clear communicator who can collaborate across technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Track record of following through on commitments and owning work end-to-end

  • Experience working in regulated, security-conscious, or high-availability environments is a plus

  • Exposure to MBSE, SysML, or architecture artifacts is beneficial but not required

Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience, OR Associate degree in a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience, OR High School Diploma/GED and 8+ years of relevant experience.
