About the Opportunity
A manufacturing company in Snow Hill, NC is seeking a Design Engineer to support product development, component design, prototype development, testing, and production release activities. This role is ideal for someone with strong 3D design skills, automotive manufacturing experience, and the ability to take products from concept through production.
The Design Engineer will work closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, production, vendors, and occasionally customers to develop and improve components, sub-assemblies, final assemblies, and related technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Perform research and development related to new technologies, industry trends, materials, and product improvements.
Design and engineer components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.
Create and maintain engineering documentation, project specifications, requirements, issues, and technical data.
Design, build, and develop prototypes to meet product specifications.
Conduct testing and evaluations on equipment, components, instruments, and designs to identify failures, improve accuracy, verify feasibility of assembly, and ensure design suitability.
Coordinate with production engineering to ensure drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation are complete and approved before release to production.
Support design modifications, component substitutions, tooling updates, and drawing revisions as needed.
Develop technical information, specifications, and test reports for engineering, purchasing, sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams.
Stay current on competitive developments, new materials, and manufacturing methods to support design decisions.
Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and production teams.
Interact with vendors and customers as needed to support design, development, and production goals.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in product development, manufacturing, and production, preferably within the automotive industry.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree preferred.
Strong experience using SolidWorks.
Experience with PDM or similar engineering document management systems.
Strong 3D design and drawing skills.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
Understanding of GD&T, basic dimensioning, manufacturing processes, and mass production requirements.
Preferred Skills
Automotive manufacturing experience.
Product development experience from concept through production.
Experience with engineering documentation and drawing release processes.
Experience working with prototypes, testing, tooling, and production teams.
Knowledge of manufacturing feasibility, design for manufacturability, and component substitutions.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks experience, automotive manufacturing exposure, and the ability to support product development from initial design through production release. This person should be comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, quality, manufacturing, production, and vendors to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and properly documented.
