Job Description - Diagnostic Automotive Technician



We are seeking an experienced Diagnostic Automotive Technician to join our growing service team. This role is designed for a highly skilled technician who enjoys solving complex vehicle problems, performing accurate diagnostics, and delivering high-quality repairs. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting abilities, a deep understanding of modern vehicle systems, and takes pride in finding the root cause of issues rather than simply replacing parts.


As a Diagnostic Automotive Technician, you will play a key role in identifying challenging mechanical and electrical concerns, recommending proper repairs, and ensuring vehicles are returned to customers operating safely and reliably. Responsibilities



  • Diagnose complex automotive issues involving mechanical, electrical, drivability, and vehicle performance systems

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using diagnostic equipment, scan tools, service information, and technical resources

  • Identify root causes of vehicle concerns and develop accurate repair recommendations

  • Diagnose and repair major vehicle systems including:

    • Engine performance and repair

    • Transmission and drivetrain systems

    • Electrical and electronic systems

    • Steering and suspension systems

    • Brake systems

    • Heating and air conditioning systems

    • Advanced vehicle technology systems



  • Complete thorough multi-point inspections and identify safety, maintenance, and repair needs

  • Perform repairs efficiently while maintaining high standards for quality and accuracy

  • Document diagnostic findings, repairs performed, and recommendations clearly on repair orders

  • Communicate effectively with Service Advisors and management regarding repair status, required work, and estimated completion times

  • Utilize digital inspection tools and repair documentation systems to provide detailed vehicle information

  • Stay current with evolving automotive technology, diagnostic procedures, and repair techniques

  • Assist in mentoring and supporting developing technicians when needed

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all shop procedures


Qualifications



  • 5+ years of automotive technician experience preferred

  • Strong background in advanced diagnostics and vehicle troubleshooting

  • Proven ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical concerns

  • Experience working with modern diagnostic equipment and repair software

  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems, components, and repair procedures

  • ASE certifications preferred (Master Technician certifications are a plus)

  • Ability to efficiently diagnose and repair vehicles across multiple systems and makes/models

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently

  • Positive attitude with strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to explain technical findings clearly to service team members

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks required in a repair environment
