Diagnostic Specialist MRI Technologist - Mount Sinai West (787 11th Ave) -Monday, Tuesday, Thursday,

Under general supervision of licensed physicians, performs and/or assists in performing all MRI examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Sets up, adjusts, and operates MRI equipment, selecting proper technical factors to obtain accurate MRI studies; properly positions and immobilizes patients. Responds to patients’ needs as required. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and general working area, stocking clinical supplies. Ensures proper operation of MRI equipment. Provides care to patients of all age groups in the form of diagnostic testing.

1. Under supervision of physicians, prepares patients and examination areas in accordance with department policies and procedures for administration, as appropriate, of all MRI examinations. Sets up, cleans and adjusts MRI equipment. Observes equipment safety precautions both for equipment maintenance and patient and employee well-being. Provides patient orientation prior to examination session

3. Provides related support functions as required. Scheduling exams, answering telephones for area and recording messages. Maintains clean work area and equipment and maintains full stock of applicable clinical supplies. Properly prepares contrast media as needed. Files film as required.

2. Under supervision, performs or assists in performing MRI’s in accordance with established clinical protocols. Positions patients in accordance with established techniques. Operates and adjusts equipment, determining current settings and monitoring patient and employee safety with respect to magnetic field. Responds to patients’ needs during testing. May assist in administering opaque media, loading power injector and handling catheters, guide wires and needles under aseptic technique. Properly labels studies in accordance with defined procedures. May perform specialized examinations as permitted by experience or registry

4. Ensures good working order of equipment. Troubleshoots routine equipment problems or seeks technical assistance for equipment malfunctions, keeping chief technologist appropriately informed

5. Performs other related duties as assigned or required as professional technologist. May assist with quality assurance/CQI tasks under supervision

Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with administration of radiologic testing. Should be familiar with most major models of radiological testing equipment. New MRI technicians require period of 30 days in order to orient themselves to techniques and work area. 1. Good analytical skills necessary for handling of MRI patients during administration of diagnostic testing. Must be able to appropriately assess the correct action to take during testing, while being cognizant of patient well-being. Must accurately monitor radiation exposure or potential for electronic shock, etc. 2. Good interpersonal manner important during delivery of patient care in order to ensure harmonious provision of radiological diagnostic examination. 3. Work requires manual dexterity for use of MRI and other equipment and instruments. Light lifting of clinical supplies may be required. Adequate physical strength required for positioning of patients and equipment during examinations. Accurate positioning of patients is critical in order to ensure proper quality of radiological examination results and patient safety.
