JOB DESCRIPTION  


JOB TITLE:               Charge Nurse                                                          SUPERVISOR:          Administrative Directors of Nursing or CEO  


Job Summary: The Charge Nurse is a qualified professional nurse responsible for planning and organizing all patient and personnel activities in the hemodialysis unit on all shifts. He/she will assume authority for the operations of the facility in the absence of the Administrative Nursing Director.  


Qualifications:


Current license for registered nurse ·      


Baccalaureate degree preferred ·       


Minimum of one year in nursing to include six months experience in a hemodialysis unit ·       


CPR Certification  


Job Specific Accountabilities:The statements below describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this role.  They are not intended to be a complete list of all duties, and additional responsibilities may be delegated as required.


1. Shares responsibility with Administrative Nursing Director for hiring, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating staff.


2.  Prepares the monthly facility schedules (staff and patient); and makes daily staff assignments.


3.  Makes staffing adjustments to meet unplanned changes and notifies staff of such changes.


4.  As needed, coordinates acceptance of new patients, transfers & transients.


5.  Complies with all Medicare/ and other ESRD reporting requirements by completing and submitting all reports and survey forms promptly.


6.  Ensures availability of adequate supplies and equipment in conjunction with the Chief Technician.


7. Maintains a therapeutic, safe and aesthetically acceptable physical environment.


8. Plans and coordinates timely acceptance of new patients, transfers and transients.


9.  Supervises reuse personnel in the absence of the Chief Technician and notifies Chief Technician of procedural and/or technical problems.


10. Assists in planning and organizing facility meetings such as CQI, Staff Meetings, and in-service.


11. Manages payroll in coordination with the business office and assists new employees with benefit enrollment as directed by the Administrative Nursing Director.
