Job Description - Diesel Mechanic Heavy Truck & Fleet Technician

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Truck Technician to join a fleet maintenance team in Medora, IN. This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered trucks and fleet vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operations. Ideal candidates have strong hands-on experience in heavy truck repair, preventive maintenance, and electrical/mechanical diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on diesel trucks and fleet vehicles per schedule and DVIR reports
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, brake, air, fluid, and filtration systems
  • Read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics for troubleshooting
  • Complete component repairs, replacements, and system adjustments as needed
  • Conduct inspections, test drives, and occasional roadside repairs when required
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, work orders, and parts usage records (paper and electronic)
  • Follow all safety procedures, DOT requirements, and company maintenance standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Truck Technician
  • Hands-on experience with diesel engines, fleet maintenance, and truck repair
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using schematics and manuals
  • Experience with brakes, air systems, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance
  • Own set of required mechanic tools (mandatory)
  • Ability to complete detailed service documentation accurately
  • Must obtain a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate prior to employment

Preferred Experience

Candidates from trucking, fleet maintenance, bus maintenance, municipal fleet, construction equipment, or agricultural diesel repair backgrounds are strongly preferred.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • On-site role in Medora, Indiana
  • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Fleet maintenance shop environment with occasional field/roadside support

Important Notes

  • No relocation assistance available; local or commuting candidates preferred
  • Strong emphasis on safety compliance and reliable attendance
  • DOT medical certification is required before the start date
