Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Technician Foreman to lead our shop team and oversee day-to-day operations. This role requires both hands-on mechanical expertise and leadership skills to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed accurately, efficiently, and safely. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with proven experience supervising technicians while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise, mentor, and train diesel technicians and shop staff.
• Assign work orders, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of repairs.
• Perform hands-on diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, shop procedures, and company policies.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance logs.
• Communicate with service managers and customers regarding repair status, timelines, and recommendations.
• Monitor parts usage and assist in inventory management.
• Uphold quality assurance standards and ensure customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of diesel technician experience; previous supervisory or lead tech role strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and preventative maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license (CDL preferred, not always required).
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications a plus (ASE, OEM, etc.).
Qualifications and Skills:
• Experience:
o Experience as a diesel mechanic or technician working on diesel engines and related systems.
o Experience with heavy-duty trucks, buses, agricultural, or construction equipment is a plus.
• Technical Skills:
o Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
o Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools such as multimeters, engine analyzers, and pressure gauges.
o Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems commonly found in diesel vehicles.
• Problem-Solving:
o Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to quickly identify and resolve engine or mechanical issues.
o Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time and resources to complete tasks.
• Communication:
o Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain repairs and maintenance needs clearly to customers and team members.
o Ability to maintain accurate service records and documentation.
• Physical Requirements:
o Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and work in various physical positions (bending, kneeling, crawling).
o Willingness to work in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors, as needed for field service calls.
Education & Certifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a formal diesel technician training program or apprenticeship preferred.
• ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in Diesel Engines or related fields is a plus.
• CDL (Commercial Driver's License) may be required for field service.
• Valid driver's license is required.
