We are seeking an experienced Diesel Technician to join a well-established, family-oriented heavy-duty truck service team serving the transportation industry across Wisconsin and Illinois for over 40 years.

This is a hands-on, lead-level technician role for someone who enjoys independent work, advanced diagnostics, and full-scope repairs on commercial trucks and buses. You'll work in a small-shop environment with minimal supervision, strong team support, and a focus on quality workmanship and continuous technical development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks and commercial vehicles (all makes/models)
  • Perform engine, transmission, driveline, differential, brake, suspension, and steering repairs
  • Complete major component work (injectors, pistons, liners, cylinder heads, bearings, clutches, fan hubs, etc.)
  • Use diagnostic software/tools to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues
  • Perform road tests to verify repairs and ensure safety compliance
  • Document repair orders, inspection findings, and recommended services
  • Maintain compliance with dealership, OEM, and safety standards
  • Support junior technicians through mentorship (as needed)
  • Participate in ongoing OEM and technical training programs

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a diesel technician or heavy-duty truck mechanic
  • Strong diagnostics experience using computer-based scan tools
  • Proven electrical troubleshooting skills (wiring, sensors, charging/starting systems, ECMs)
  • Extensive experience with brakes (air & hydraulic), suspension, driveline, and engine systems
  • Ability to perform major repairs and overhauls independently
  • Must own personal toolset required for heavy-duty repair work
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain a CDL (if not already held)
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical/vocational training preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASE Certification and/or OEM training
  • EPA 608/609 certification
  • Experience with International trucks, Cummins engines, or other OEM platforms
  • Background in dealership or fleet maintenance environments
  • Experience mentoring or acting as a lead technician

Work Environment & Benefits

  • Small, family-style shop (no micromanagement)
  • Strong technician-focused culture with respect for skilled labor
  • No nights or weekends – consistent weekday schedule
  • Tool and work boot allowance
  • Ongoing OEM training and an internal technical development center
  • Regular training sessions (monthly or bi-monthly)
  • Opportunity to grow into a lead or mentorship role
