1.1 The purpose of this standard procedure is to outline the duties, responsibilities, authority, reporting relationships, and measures of performance for the position of Direct Support Professional (DSP) in the Easter Seals West Kentucky Adult Day Training (ADT) program.
2.0 BASIC FUNCTION
2.1 The basic function of the DSP is to provide quality social, recreational, vocational and basic community skills for participants under the direction of the Manager of the Day Training program. The DSP is also responsible for monthly documentation in accordance with the SCL, Michelle P, and other waiver regulations.
3.0 REQUIREMENTS:
3.1 Education:
Required: High School diploma or GED
Preferred: B.S. Degree in Rehabilitation or a related field
3.2 Experience:
One or more years working with individuals with developmental disabilities are preferred.
3.3 Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:
· Positive attitude
· Ability to drive company vehicles
· Ability to show empathy
· Good written and communication skills
· Basic computer skills (including but not limited to: Word, Excel, e-mail)
· Ability to follow directions
· Ability to exercise sound judgment and implement accordingly

· Knowledge of disabilities and the ability to interact positively and compassionately with participants, caregivers, employees, and the community

· Knowledge of and ability to execute policies and procedures of HIPAA act.
· Ability to treat participant and coworkers with dignity and respect
· Knowledge of Day Training services being provided
· Ability to volunteer for various during/afterhours activities throughout the year
3.4 Physical:
· Required to life, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
· Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping and reaching
· Requires driving company vehicles and assisting individuals in and out of the vehicles
· Requires transferring individuals in and out of wheelchairs
· Requires operating a mechanical lift for wheelchairs (typically but not limited to company vehicles)
3.5 Mental:
Basic statistical and analytical business math skills are required. The ability to read, write, spell, and communicate clearly and effectively in the English language on all technical and business levels is required. Basic computer knowledge and ability to execute the skills is required.
3.6 Working Conditions:
Office and job sites include primarily inside and some outside conditions (approximately 50% sitting and 50% standing).
3.7 Must successfully pass all criminal background and abuse checks as well as a drug screening. After hired, subject to randomized background and drug screenings.
3.8 Must have valid driver’s license and insurance.
4.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
4.1 The DSP will report directly to the Manager of Adult Day Training.
4.2 The following positions report directly to the DSP: None.
5.0 AUTHORITY
5.1 To assist the Manager of Day Training in developing, implementing and maintaining the Day Training program contracts.
5.2 To request from the Manager of Adult Day Training the purchase equipment, materials, operating supplies and services within the guidelines established by the approved budget.
5.3 Commit company resources as directed by the Adult Day Training Manager.
6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1 Maintain an effective and efficient operation in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
6.2 To act as a liaison between the organization and the agencies and or guardians who refer participants to the Day Training program.
6.3 Ensure a safe work environment.
6.4 Ensure that quality standards are adhered to.
6.5 Support and enforce all company policies and procedures.
6.6 Maintain open communication with the Assistant Manager of Adult Day Training, Adult Day Training Manager, Vice President and all other employees.
6.7 Maintain necessary documentation, within required timeframe, on all participants on their caseload and submit to Adult Day Training Manager no later than the 10th of the month.
6.8 Ensure all documentation follows guidelines set forth by SCL, MPW, and other waivers as well as all other governing entities.
6.9 To gather information for the Adult Day Training Manager to help prepare appropriate budget & service information and disseminate to the Vice-President of Adult Services.
6.10 Recommend to the Adult Day Training Manager the purchase of required capital equipment.
6.11 Control operational costs and expenses as specified by purchase orders (P.O.s)
6.12 Preserve and maintain the physical assets of the company by providing adequate security and ensure that controls are established and enforced.
6.13 Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants, while facilitating a meaningful day.
6.14 Maintain workspaces to be free from clutter, including but not limited to: office space, common-room and kitchen.
6.15 Contribute to a positive and professional work environment.
6.16 Participate in various volunteer activities throughout the year, including but not limited to after-hours activities.
6.17 Treat all participants and coworkers with dignity and respect at all times.
6.18 Ensure the quality of standards is adhered to in accordance to state and agency guidelines.
6.19 Ensure appropriate implementation of the support plan while providing services.
6.20 Attend meetings related to the person served.
6.21 Attend meetings regarding Adult Day Training, including but not limited to Professional Day and Adult Day Training Staff meetings.
7.0 PRINCIPAL DUTIES
7.1 Assist Adult Day Training Manager in developing, implementing and maintaining the controls necessary to meet Corporate and SCL/Michelle P. Program goals.
7.2 Assist with the preparation of meals and snacks.
7.3 Assist with participants boarding and exiting vans (use of mechanical van lift).
7.4 Plan and implement activities and classes based on the participants Plan of Care:
· Use allotted planning/preparation time effectively
· Implement classes, outings, and other activities as assigned
7.5 Model and promote respectful interactions with participants:
· Interact with participants in a respectful, empathetic, age-appropriate and culturally appropriate manner.
· Respect participants’ preferences and requests, based upon Plan of Care information.
· Respect all committee approved Rights Restrictions or the lack thereof.
· Use appropriate tone and voice at all times.
7.6 Maintain a neat and clean program area
· Put away items/supplies after done with the items in their respectful place.
· Clean/disinfect program areas and supplies daily
· Check and replenish supplies (inform Adult Day Training Manager when in low supply)
· Clean up spills/bodily fluids using appropriate infection control procedures.
· Wear gloves when cleaning with chemicals and when providing personal care.
· Promote a clean and sanitary environment.
7.7 Monitor and respond to safety of participants
· Ensure the safety of each participant by participating in safety training and emergency drills
· Complete and maintain certification in CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions
· Know emergency procedures and implement at necessary
· Report suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation of participants immediately per Easter Seals policies and procedures
7.8 Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, providing appropriate information for participants’ Plan of Care.
7.9 Perform other duties as assigned, including attending required training sessions.
7.10 Work with management to ensure company policy is followed.
7.11 Provide community experiences and community readiness classes for Day Training participants.
7.12 Control expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements.
7.13 Report suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation of participants immediately per Easter Seals West Kentucky policies and procedures.
7.14 Counsel with Adult Day Training participants as needed. **Using empathy, appropriate tone of voice, as well as dignity and respect.
7.15 Complete any other duties assigned by the Adult Day Training Manager satisfactorily.
7.16 Assist in preparing for annual Medicaid and licensing review of Adult Day
Training program.
7.17 Act as a liaison between referring agencies, families, participants and employers as well as an advocate for the Adult Day Training program while following HIPAA confidentiality guidelines.
