Position Summary

The Foundation for Fresh Produce (The Foundation) is a global philanthropic nonprofit dedicated to growing a healthier world by changing the trajectory of human health. With ambitious goals to become an influential, global foundation, The Foundation advances fruit and vegetable consumption as a cornerstone of improved health, equity, and long-term demand.

The Director of Development is responsible for driving philanthropic revenue growth that enables the Foundation’s programs and Theory of Change to scale. This is a results-oriented leadership role focused on execution, opportunity expansion, and sustained revenue generation across institutional philanthropy, major donors, and aligned corporate partners.

The Foundation has a clear strategy and direction. The Director of Development is expected to doggedly execute that strategy, expand funding opportunities, and convert relationships into meaningful philanthropic investment. This role requires poise, professionalism, tenacity, and persistence—balancing long-term partnership building with a clear expectation of results.

The Director works closely with the President on high-level donor engagement and serves as the Foundation’s primary development leader, guiding an external grant agency and collaborating across the organization to ensure strong cases for support, disciplined follow-through, and measurable outcomes.

  • Actively participate in funder strategy, cultivation, and stewardship conversations

  • Coordinate internally to ensure proposals and reports clearly connect funding to programs and outcomes

  • Ensure disciplined follow-through on grant stewardship and reporting

Industry & Corporate Philanthropy (20%)

  • Cultivate philanthropic relationships with industry and corporate partners, positioning contributions as mission-aligned investments rather than transactional sponsorships

  • Translate industry interest into sustained philanthropic support that advances shared outcomes

  • Identify co-funding, collaborative, and multi-partner opportunities that increase scale and impact

  • Maintain clarity and integrity between philanthropic engagement and the Foundation’s mission and priorities

External Representation & Opportunity Development (10%)

  • Represent the Foundation with confidence and professionalism in funder meetings and convenings

  • Expand the Foundation’s visibility and credibility within philanthropic and health-focused funding communities

  • Collaborate with communications and program leaders to ensure strong, outcome-oriented funder narratives

  • Continuously scan for emerging funding opportunities aligned with the Foundation’s ambition and strategy

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, philanthropy, or institutional fundraising

  • Demonstrated success securing significant philanthropic funding, including foundation and major gifts

  • Proven ability to drive revenue growth, manage pipelines, and close funding opportunities

  • Experience managing external grant writers or agencies

  • Strong relationship-building skills with senior-level funders and partners

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with CRM systems and standard business software

Core Competencies & Attributes
