Director Family Birthing & Surgical Specialty Unit Derry, NH

SHIFT: Full Time No Weekends

Job Summary

The Director, Family Birthing Unit and Surgical Specialty Unit is responsible for coordinating and implementing the strategic planning and 24/7 operations of the Family Birthing Unit and the Surgical Specialty Unit. Responsibilities include planning, directing and coordinating the activities of nursing, leadership and support staff to ensure quality patient care in accordance with care standards.

 

 Job Functions

  • Maintains current knowledge in all aspects of Women’s & Children’s and Surgical Care practices
  • Manages all direct and indirect nursing care given to patients within the departments to ensure optimal patient care
  • Determines staffing requirements; interviews, hires and evaluates staff; develops annual goals and budget
  • Provides leadership in compliance with applicable safety and quality standards; provides leadership for growth and development of new services in areas of clinical supervision
  • Oversees staff development, competency and leadership development/mentoring
  • Ensures department wide compliance with statutory mandates, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards of CMS, TJC, CAP, OSHA, EPA, AABB, ARC, EMTALA
  • Designs and implements department quality improvement program; participates in hospital and service line quality improvement efforts
  • Manages the department’s operations and resources to achieve quality, financial, growth, productivity and satisfaction objectives for overall success and growth of the departments
  • Manages resources consistent with department volume, beds and maintains inventory control
  • Financial knowledge as it relates to budgetary planning
  • Operates within the department budget
  • Participates in business outreach and community efforts aimed at increasing visibility and growth
  • Participates in corporate and division initiatives to meet the department and organization’s goals
  • Promotes internal and external customer satisfaction; performs regular rounding with physicians and other  providers
  • Builds and promotes a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement
  • Attendance, works as scheduled

 

Experience:

  • Minimum five years Women’s & Children’s and Surgical Care Services experience required
  • Two to three years in a managerial or supervisory position required

Qualifications

 

  • Required: Registered Nurse with an active license to practice in New Hampshire; Bachelors of Science in Nursing; American Heart Association BCLS and NRP
  • Preferred: Masters of Science in Nursing

  • # Beds per Unit- 8-10
  • Must have leadership and clinical experience in L& D
  • Reports to the CNO
  • Oversees 2 Clinical Coordinators
  • Must be comfortable working in a "slower paced" environment
