Director of Development & Marketing

Position Summary: The Director of Development & Marketing is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The position serves as the primary development officer of the organization and serves on the Leadership Team. The primary objective will be establishing and sustaining long-term relationships with existing and prospective donors. Activities will include identifying and pursuing diverse funding streams to generate individual, corporate, community, and private foundation support for Equinox programs. Director will lead a team of professionals in donor relations, communications, public relations, marketing, events and volunteer management. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement the Development & Marketing Plan, and ensure its success
• Meet/exceed monthly and quarterly goals for meaningful contacts with donors and prospective donors, as well as annual financial goals; generate metrics and other financial reports for CEO and Development Committee; analyze effectiveness of initiatives and realign strategies to accommodate changing environment and giving trends
• Work in concert with the CEO, Board of Directors and the Development Committee to generate diverse streams of revenue that align with organizational strategic initiatives and to identify growth opportunities; engage Development Committee members in the execution of their roles and responsibilities
• Develop and implement strategies that attract and retain individual, foundation and corporate support for Equinox, including direct mail and online appeals, grants, and events
• Manage and enhance existing relationships with Equinox supporters and partners through stewardship while expanding the portfolio of individual, corporate and foundation donors through research, cultivation and solicitation activities
• Plan, coordinate, orchestrate and manage Equinox’s annual fundraising event in conjunction with Development Committee and CEO. 
• Act as an important member of the Leadership Team and provide a leadership role for the organization to communicate the needs and mission of Equinox in a passionate and compelling manner to the community, members of the Board and to private funders
• Develop strategies to actively engage Board members in a deliberate development process; generate and follow leads from Board members and make regular reports on progress against planned goals
• Oversee, audit and comply with gift processing practices and policies in conjunction with Finance Department and other relevant staff
• Act as main liaison with media outlets and coordinate all media relations
• Oversee agency’s website, social media, e-marketing initiatives, and general communications
• Oversee and participate in Community Outreach efforts with community partners, including attending events, making presentations, and serving on committees, as deemed appropriate
• As the development and marketing team expands, provide primary oversight and management of the development staff 
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
• Lengthy periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required 
• Five-to-seven years of fundraising and marketing experience with demonstrated success in creating and executing development strategies
• Successful track record working with high level Board and committee members to meet fundraising objectives and with planning, managing and initiating solicitations
• Demonstrated success in achieving successful development and marketing outcomes required
• Experience in event planning and execution required.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience in writing and managing grants preferred

Skills:

• Knowledge of successful special event and fundraising practices
• Demonstrated understanding and utilization of fundraising techniques to identify, solicit and steward gifts from various donor sources (i.e., individuals, corporations, foundations)
• Demonstrated ability to work with and motivate board members and volunteers in resource development efforts
• Demonstrated ability to manage teams, departments and individuals
• Demonstrated fiscal literacy and responsibility, and ability to manage budgets
• Demonstrated high standards of ethics and integrity
• Highly detail-oriented and ability to work under pressure and with demanding deadlines
• Excellent verbal and written communication, and presentation skills
• Strong interpersonal and time management skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Working knowledge and experience with Raiser’s Edge (donor/fundraising database)
