Position Summary
The Director of Finance & Business Operations will serve as the financial backbone of the organization, partnering closely with the COO, CEO, investors, and department leaders. This individual will be responsible for forecasting, budgeting, cash management, reporting, HR operations, and supporting the company's growth across SaaS, RaaS, and CapEx revenue streams.
The ideal candidate combines strong financial leadership with operational pragmatism and is comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where systems and processes must be built and improved continuously.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Own company-wide budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Develop and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial models.
- Monitor cash flow, burn rate, runway, and liquidity planning.
- Produce management reporting packages, KPI dashboards, and board reporting materials.
- Analyze business performance, revenue trends, gross margins, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with department leaders on headcount planning and spending controls.
- Support fundraising activities, investor diligence, and strategic financial analysis.
Revenue & Business Model Management
- Maintain financial models supporting:
- SaaS recurring revenue
- Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) contracts
- Capital equipment (CapEx) sales
- Professional services and deployment revenue
- Track ARR, MRR, bookings, backlog, renewals, churn, and customer profitability.
- Ensure revenue recognition processes comply with applicable accounting standards.
- Support pricing strategy, contract analysis, and customer profitability assessments.
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee external accounting partners and audit activities.
- Manage monthly close process and financial statement preparation.
- Improve financial controls, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain banking relationships, cash management, and treasury functions.
- Support tax preparation and compliance activities.
- Manage procurement approval workflows and expense controls.
Human Resources Administration
- Serve as the primary internal owner for HR operations until a dedicated HR function is established.
- Coordinate payroll administration and employee benefits programs.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Support recruiting operations and offer administration.
- Maintain employee records and HR compliance requirements.
- Partner with leadership on compensation planning, organizational structure, and workforce planning.
- Coordinate performance review and employee development processes.
Business Operations
- Improve operational processes across Finance, HR, Sales Operations, and Customer Success.
- Support contract administration, renewals, and revenue collection activities.
- Develop systems and reporting infrastructure that enable scalable growth.
- Partner with Sales and Operations leadership to improve forecasting accuracy and business visibility.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- 8+ years of progressive finance experience.
- 3+ years in a leadership role within a high-growth technology company.
- Strong FP&A experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Experience supporting board reporting and executive leadership teams.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Strong understanding of SaaS metrics and recurring revenue businesses.
- Experience in robotics, automation, industrial technology, or enterprise software.
- Knowledge of SaaS, Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS), and capital equipment (CapEx) business models.
- US Citizen or GC holder - no H1B visa
Preferred
- Startup experience from Series A through growth-stage companies.
- Familiarity with ERP, CRM, and financial planning systems.
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent financial qualification.
