Job Description - Director of Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management

Director of Manufacturing and Supply Chain Operations

Packaging Machinery/Assembly Machinery/Industrial Machinery

Filamatic designs and builds complex industrial filling and integrated packaging systems serving the pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostic, cannabis, and cosmetic markets. For more than seventy years, the company’s success has been driven by disciplined execution, technical excellence, and a deep commitment to developing people through continuous improvement.  We operate under the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) and seek a commercially adept and results oriented individual who will collaborate with the Executive team, and conduct cross-functional planning with Sales, Engineering, and Finance.

The Director of Manufacturing and Supply Chain Operations exists to lead and strengthen the enterprise operating system of Filamatic. This role is responsible for the overall performance and development of Manufacturing, Machine Shop, Machine Final Assembly, Performance Testing, Supply Chain, Project Management, Technical Field Service, and Facilities. Reporting to the President and serving as a core member of the senior leadership team, the Director has full accountability for delivery performance, quality, achieving gross margin, and the development of future leaders across operations.

This position will also be responsible for implementing and managing a companywide Quality program built on Lean Manufacturing principles.  The purpose of the role is not simply to prioritize, execute and manage output, but to build a stable, capable operating system that consistently delivers customer value while developing people at every level.

Results are expected to be achieved through strong processes, disciplined daily management, and respect for people, not through heroics or firefighting. The successful candidate will have a fiscally conservative perspective, with a constant eye on cashflow, and a proven track record of enabling the growth of bookings and profits, while reducing costs will enhance your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Machine Shop, Machine Assembly, Performance Testing, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, and Technical Field Service departments.

  • Implementation and management of Lean Enterprise Program across the enterprise, including daily management, standard work, flow, pull systems, and visual controls, while adapting these principles to a mixed-mode, engineered-to-order and build to design environment.

  • Development of Filamatic leaders and teams through mentorship, evaluations, 1 on 1’s , formal training, and coaching to ensure succession plans are in place for key roles.

  • Develop strong supplier partnerships with a long-term view, emphasizing stability, early supplier involvement, and shared problem solving rather than transactional buying.

  • Facilities management and Environmental Health and Safety are integral responsibilities. Safety, quality, and environmental stewardship are expected to be built into daily work through standard processes and leadership rather than managed as separate programs.

  • Make recommendations on capital expenditure, and for improvements to increase capacity and quality.

  • The Director actively contributes to enterprise strategy through the collaborative planning process, ensuring alignment between long-term objectives and daily execution.

  • Enterprise responsibility with Blue Collar DNA that is not afraid to roll their sleeves up, eliminate roadblocks with a “Get Stuff Done” mentality, never loosing sight of the results that need to be achieved.

  • Assist with implementation of new ERP system and utilize it to maximize productivity for department and company and provide solid data to drive overall decision making and planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing or operational leadership or equivalent experience.

  • Proven success leading production, manufacturing, and supply chain functions at a small to medium manufacturer of industrial or capital machinery.

  • Demonstrated experience with Build-to-Order and Mass Customization manufacturing environments.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification required; Black Belt preferred.

  • Experience implementing a Lean focused quality program on a company wide basis.

  • Strong experience with Sales and Operations Planning, Project Management, and ERP system optimization.

  • Experience utilizing all relevant ERP modules to maximize productivity and efficiency for the department and company.

  • PMI certification and experience using Microsoft Project highly desirable.

  • APICS (CPIM or CSCP) certification in manufacturing and supply chain management strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Lean Enterprise Systems (Danaher or similar) preferred.

  • Experience applying AI tools to improve manufacturing, quality, or operational efficiency.

  • Deep familiarity with ISO quality systems and compliance frameworks.

  • Proven ability to ship complex industrial machinery on time, within budget, and meeting customer expectations.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaborative management skills with a customer-first mindset.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $120,000 – $150,000 per year

Benefits: 3 weeks of annual vacation, 10 paid holidays, 401(k) with company contribution, parental leave, and comprehensive health (3 plan options), dental, and vision coverage. Eligibility for insurance and 401(k) begins the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
