Director of Revenue Accounting

Grant Thornton is seeking a Director of Revenue Accounting to join the team. Approved office locations can be found below. 

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Revenue Accounting is the establishment and maintenance of global revenue accounting policies and procedures, including adherence to ASC606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers and Current Expected Credit losses under ASC Topic 326. This is a newly created role resulting from the growth of the Grant Thornton Advisory multinational platform. This successful candidate will play a key leadership role in acquisitions, finance transformation initiatives, and continuous improvement in financial reporting across the Grant Thornton global platform. 

What You’ll Do 

• Establish and maintain revenue accounting policies in compliance with ASC606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers and ASC 326, Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) as well as other guidance.


• Develop accounting procedures with various international jurisdictions to bridge from local GAAP and/or IFRS to U.S. GAAP relating to revenue recognition.


• Partner with billing functions in various jurisdictions and through various accounting systems to enable appropriate overall revenue accounting.


• Provide revenue accounting guidance to internal business leaders.


• Prepare month-end schedules, management reporting packages, and supporting analyses.


• Drive improvements in collections and cash flows by partnering cross-functionally.


• Build and enhance scalable processes, controls, and systems to support a growing and evolving revenue model.


• Support and lead monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement close processes, including preparation and review of revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analysis.


• Ensure strong GL integrity and GAAP compliance across revenue-related accounts.


• Prepare technical accounting memos, narratives, and documentation to support revenue recognition positions.


• Partner with external auditors during audits and quarterly reviews, including audit support, walkthroughs, and control documentation.


• Develop and maintain internal controls over revenue, including documentation and testing readiness.


• Identify opportunities for process automation and system improvements across billing, accounts receivable and revenue recognition.


• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment between time entry, billing and accounting systems. 

Required Qualifications 

• 7+ years of experience with either a leading CPA firm working on public company clients or at a public company with responsibilities in revenue accounting or financial reporting.        


• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and IFRS, specifically revenue accounting for time and material as well as fixed fee arrangements for a professional services firm following ASC606.


• Experience with SAP FICO and professional services modules a plus.    


• Experience with accounting for professional services organizations a positive.


• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.


• Stronger leader, across the organization.


• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.   Demonstrated experience in reviewing contracts as well as preparing technical accounting memos


• Hands-on mindset with willingness to dive into operational and transactional details 


• CPA or equivalent certification

The base salary range for this position is between $184,000 and $240,000. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion, and it is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity.
