Director - Perioperative Services Oakland and Walnut Creek

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Surgical Services, the Unit Director will manage and develop staff in the operative settings of Oakland and Walnut Creek. They will have direct oversight of the Assistant Unit Director and collaborate with medical directors and staff. The incumbent is responsible for patient care programs, quality assurance, and resource management. This role serves as a professional nursing role model and supports UCSF's mission.

• Develop and implement operational processes for quality patient care across the perioperative continuum.
• Partner with leadership to coordinate care policies and procedures for all patient populations.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to nurse leaders, reviewing and approving development plans.
• Coordinate resource needs, including budgetary recommendations and variance analyses.
• Promote a collaborative decision-making environment and shared governance in nursing practice.
• Represent nursing units on interdisciplinary committees, addressing patient care topics.
• Manage employee recruitment, performance evaluation, and staff development.
• Collaborate with management to maintain adequate staffing levels and advise on administrative issues.
• Instill strong management practices to foster teamwork and timely goal achievement.
• Design and coordinate patient flow with a focus on patient satisfaction.
• Works collaboratively with labor relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level. Facilitates and oversees resolution of human resources, labor relations, employee safety and risk management issues. Collaborates with IT managers to develop and implement new or improved patient care information systems and coordinates efforts across perioperative services. 

• 3-5 years of nursing O.R. management experience with progressive and in-depth expertise in perioperative services.
• Pediatric experience. 
• Bachelor's degree in nursing is required, with a preference for a Master's degree.
• Registered Nurse license in the State of California is mandatory upon start date.
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote and environment of effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.  
• Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare IT, patient care workflows, and processes
• Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
• Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork and collaboration. 
• Ensures Magnet structure and processes are implemented and maintained by promoting evidence-based practices and collaborative governance. 
• Knowledge of professional standards for the operating room and AORN membership.
• American Heart Association BLS certification is required.
• CNOR or nursing administration certification is preferred.
• Ability to pass a background check and flexibility to work at multiple UCSF Health locations.
• Prefer candidates with with experience in an academic medical center setting.
